Jiu-Jitsu standout Demian Maia will attempt to stay undefeated in the UFC when he takes on Team Quest veteran Ed “Short Fuse” Herman in a middleweight bout at UFC 83: St. Pierre vs. Serra II on April 19th at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
The organization officially announced the bout today on their official website, rounding out a fight card that will feature eleven bouts.
UFC 83 features current welterweight champions Georges St. Pierre and Matt Serra unifying their belts in a main event rematch of their fight at UFC 69: Shootout last year, where Serra stopped St. Pierre with strikes to win the UFC welterweight title.
Former middleweight champion Rich Franklin will try to get back on track at the event as he faces fellow contender Travis Lutter.
After shining on the third season of “The Ultimate Fighter”, Herman dropped his first two fights in the UFC. However the Portland, Oregon native bounced back and has won his last three fights, including an impressive knockout of Joe Doerksen at UFC 78: Validation in November.
Maia was victorious in his UFC debut, submitting Ryan Jensen with a rear naked choke in just under three minutes at UFC 77: Hostile Territory this past October.
