We’re live bitches!

The first of two preliminary bouts tonight is a matchup between welterweights as Lee King and Marcus Lanier collide.

Lee King vs. Marcus Lanier

Round 1: They start the round pawing away at each other with the jab. Lanier tries multiple takedown attempts throughout the first couple minutes of the round but King is able to successfully stuff all of them. They clinch up against the cage and throw the occasional strike until the referee separates them and restarts the bout due to a lack of action. They go back and forth on the feet until King lands a combination that sends Lanier falling to the canvas. King pounces on his opponent but a tight guard allows Lanier to survive until the end of the round. MMA on Tap scores the round 10-9 for King.

Round 2: King takes Lanier down to the mat right off the bat to start the second round. Lanier attempts a triangle and an armbar but King is able to work his way out of them. King continues to control Lanier from the top position and work an effective ground and pound assault. Lanier is able to sweep King and get back to his feet. Lanier then picks King up during a clinch and slams him to the mat. Lanier gets on top of King and starts pounding away. King gives up his back and after a rear naked choke attempt, Lanier transitions to an armbar that causes King to tap out.

Winner: Marcus Lanier - Submission (Armbar)

Things are moving pretty quickly this evening. The second fight of the night features Liam McCarty going up against Jason House.

Liam McCarty vs. Jason House

Round 1: The two go back and forth with leg kicks during the opening moments. McCarty switches to punches and tries to throw everytime House throws a leg kick. House nails McCarty flush with a right hand and McCarty goes in for a takedown. House is able to move out of the way. McCarty tries again and puts House on his back. McCarty works some ground and pound. House attempts a loose triangle that McCarty easily escapes. House stands up and the two exchange on the feet until McCarty takes House down again. McCarty controls House on the mat until the end of the round. MMA on Tap scores the round 10-9 for McCarty.

Round 2: They tie up early in the round and exchange knees and elbows in tight. McCarty shoots in for a takedown but House stuffs it and then turns McCarty onto his back. House controlled McCarty from the top position until McCarty swept House and got back to his feet. McCarty takes House down and works some ground and pound. They reverse position a few times each and score points with strikes until the end of the round. MMA on Tap scores the round 10-9 for McCarty.

Round 3: McCarty comes out swinging like a wild man at the start of the round. House takes McCarty down and then takes his back after a brief scramble. House is able to pull guard and then sweeps McCarty, putting him on his back. House tries to work some ground and pound but McCarty does a good job of controlling them. The referee stands them up because of a lack of action. They exchange on the feet until House pulls McCarty down on top of him. McCarty holds House down until the end of the round. MMA on Tap scores the round 10-9 for House.

During the break in between the rounds the fight is stopped because of a cut over House’s left eye.

Winner: Liam McCarty - TKO (Cut)

Here comes our third bout of the night - Jay White taking on Patrick Castillo

Jay White vs. Patrick Castillo

Round 1: White quickly took Castillo down to start things off. Castillo was on his back for a few moments but was able to work his way back to his feet. As he was standing up, White caught Castillo in a kimura. Castillo went down to his knees in an attempt to get out of the hold but White switches to an armbar and forces Castillo to tap out less than a minute into the bout.

Winner: Jay White - Submission (Armbar)

Putting on four fights in the span of an hour. This must be some kind of record. Fourth bout of the night coming up - Freddie Espiricueta vs. Nissen Osterneck

Freddie Espiricueta vs. Nissen Osterneck

Round 1: The two exchange strikes in the opening frame until Osterneck takes him down. Espiricueta used the cage to get back up to his feet but Osterneck quickly took him back down. Osterneck past Espiricueta’s guard and found himself in side control where Osterneck took control of his opponent’s right arm before moving to the mount. Osterneck then pounded away with unanswered punches from the mount position until the referee steps in to stop the bout. The announcer says that Espiricueta verbally submitted.

Winner: Nissen Osterneck - Submission (Strikes)

The next fight of the night is Corey Mahon going head-to-head with Chris Bowels.

Cory Mahon vs. Chris Bowles

Round 1: Bowles connected early and often with punches at the beginning of the first round. Bowles landed a combination that stunned Mahon at one point, sending him stumbling back into the fence. Bowles pounced on Mahon and ended up in his guard. Mahon sported an active guard but Bowles was still able to work a fairly successful ground and pound assault. Mahon was eventually able to lift Bowles up and off him with his feet. They exchange strikes on the feet once again until the end of the round. MMA on Tap scores the round 10-9 for Bowles.

Round 2: Bowles landed combinations early in the round and it resulted in a takedown less than a minute in. Bowles controlled Mahon on the ground for a long while until Mahon was able to sweep Bowles and find his way back to his feet. Bowles took Mahon down again but the two were quickly stood up by the referee. They clinched after returning to the feet and Mahon connected with an elbow that cut Bowles. Mahon then takes Bowles down and takes his back where he lands a flurry of punches from behind his opponent. During a scramble, Bowles attempted to take Mahon’s back but found himself caught in an armbar. Bowles tries to fight it off but eventually is forced to tap out.

Winner: Cory Mahon - Submission (Armbar)

The big-time fights are coming now. Pete Spratt tries to make it two wins in a row inside of HDNet Fights when he is challenged by Tristan Yunker.

Pete Spratt vs. Tristan Yunker

Round 1: The two exchange on the feet to start the fight. Spratt connects with a right-hand combination that causes Yunker to shoot in for a takedown. Spratt was able to work his way out of Yunker’s guard and secured side control. Spratt landed a combination of elbows and punched that stunned Yunker. Yunker is cut over his left eye. After wiping some of the blood away from his face, Yunker informs the referee that he can’t see. The referee stops the fight and Spratt is declared the winner.

Winner: Pete Spratt - TKO (Cut)

The only heavyweight bout of the night is on tap. TKO veteran Krzysztof Soszynski challenging Robert Villegas.

Krzysztof Soszynski vs. Robert Villegas

Round 1: Villegas atttempts to chop Soszynski down with leg kicks throughout the first minute of the round. Soszynski returned fire with combinations to the body and crisp right hands. Villegas then accidentally kicks Soszynski in the groin. Soszynski is given the five-minute allotted time to recover but only takes about 20 seconds. The bout is restarted and Villegas continues to land leg kicks. They go back and forth with a mix of strikes until the end of the round. MMA on Tap scores the round 10-9 for Villegas.

Round 2: Villegas pulls Soszynski on top of him to start the round. Villegas catches Soszynski in a kneebar at one point but Soszynski finds his way out of it. They stand up and Soszynski quickly takes Villegas down to the mat. Soszynski lands some body shots and then opts to stand back up. Villegas is visibly fatigued. Villegas then flops to his back twice in a row to attempt to goad Soszynski into jumping into his guard. Villegas does it again and the referee disqualifies him.

Winner: Krzysztof Soszynski - Disqualification

Yves Edwards now takes on injury replacement Alonzo Martinez in the next bout.

Yves Edwards vs. Alonzo Martinez

Round 1: Martinez came out guns blazing to start the round but Edwards did a good job of avoiding the majority of the wild shots. Edwards returned fire with a couple of combinations of his own before the two went to the canvas. Edwards easily shifted from his opponent’s guard, to side control, and then back again. After working some ground and pound, Edwards opted to stand up and waited for Martinez to get back to his feet. Martinez waited for the referee to step in and restart the bout before standing up again. They clinch and Edwards slips and falls to the canvas. Martinez lands on top and finishes out the round working some ground and pound. MMA on Tap scores the round 10-9 for Martinez.

Round 2: The two exchange strikes to start the round. Edwards lands a right hand that stuns Martinez at one point. Edwards hops on top of Martinez and pounds away until Martinez sweeps him and dishes out some ground and pound of his own. Edwards ended back up on top and achieved mount. Edwards threw punches that forced Martinez to give up his back. Edwards continually worked for a rear naked choke and finally secured one after an extended period of time. Martinez quickly taps out.

Winner: Yves Edwards - Submission (Rear Naked Choke)

Frank Trigg vs. Edwin Dewees

Round 1: The two went back and forth with strikes to start the fight. Trigg was aggressive, chasing Dewees around the cage while Dewees fired off punches and leg kicks. Trigg attempted a head kick but Dewees caught it and took him down. Trigg catches Dewees in a reverse kimura on the way down. Trigg rolls Dewees over and Dewees is forced to tap out a little less than two minutes into the bout.

Winner: Frank Trigg - Submission (Kimura)

Time for Maaaaayyyhem…

Jason Miller vs. Tim Kennedy

Round 1: They exchange leg kicks to start the bout. Kennedy blocks one of them and takes Miller down. Kennedy throws a knee while Miller is down and the referee steps in to warn Kennedy. The bout is restarted on the feet. The pace picks up and each throw their fair share of strikes. Kennedy is getting the better of the exchanges. They clinch up against the cage and Kennedy is able to sweep Miller down to the mat. Kennedy moves from side control and the mount before settling inside Miller’s half guard. Kennedy pounds away and Miller rolls to his back. Kennedy works for a rear naked choke until the end of the round. MMA on Tap scores the round 10-9 for Kennedy.

Round 2: They come out firing away to start the round. Kennedy takes Miller down. Kennedy takes Miller’s back but Miller is able to roll back into guard. Miller lands some strikes from the bottom until he sweeps Kennedy and ends up on top. Miller working some ground and pound. Kennedy is cut. The referee stops the bout to check on Kennedy’s cut. The fight is permitted to continue and the two grapple until the end of the round. MMA on Tap scores the round 10-9 for Miller.

Round 3: Mayhem takes Kennedy down to start the third and final round. Kennedy tries to secure a hold of Miller’s leg from the bottom but Miller easily shakes it off. The referee stops the fight to have Kennedy’s cut checked again. It’s looking pretty bad. The fight is allowed to continue. Kennedy takes Miller down. Miller attempts an armbar and then a modified omoplata but is unable to hold both submissions. Miller reverses position and then works some ground and pound. Miller pounds away on Kennedy until the end of the round. MMA on Tap scores the round 10-9 for Miller and the fight 29-28 for Miller. The judges agree.

Winner: Jason Miller - Unanimous Decision
