Gina Carano is back.
The 28-year-old, often coined as the "face of women's MMA" and one of Strikeforce's biggest draws, announced her intention to return to the promotion this year during Showtime's broadcast of "Fedor vs. Silva" on Saturday.
"I think I just need to settle the score for myself," Carano said of returning to competiton. "I need to get back in there for me. I want to walk away from it knowing that I left it all in there.. that I left it all in the cage."
At the show's post-fight press conference, Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker stated that he was targeting an early summer return for Carano, possibly in June.
Carano has not competed since suffering her only professional loss, a first-round TKO at the hands of reigning Strikeforce 145 lb women's champion Cris "Cyborg" Santos in August 2009.
Prior to that, Carano had won her first seven bouts as a pro, including wings over Kelly Kobold and Kaitlin Young under the now-defunct EliteXC banner.
