Former WEC featherweight title challenger Leonard Garcia could return to action at WEC 44, a yet-to-be-announced event slated for November 18 in Las Vegas, against “Ultimate Fighter 5” cast member Manny Gamburyan.
The news comes from Sherdog.com, which reports that the two fighters have verbally agreed to the bout. WEC 44 is expected to be headlined by Mike Brown defending his WEC featherweight title against rising top contender Jose Aldo.
In his last fight, Garcia bounced back from a failed title opportunity against Brown, earning a split decision over Jameel Massouh at WEC 42 on August 9. It was the third win for Garcia since moving to the WEC from the UFC nearly two years ago.
Like his opponent, Gamburyan also made the switch to the WEC from the UFC’s lightweight division. The cousin of UFC welterweight contender Karo Parisyan fought his way to a unanimous decision win over John Franchi in his WEC debut in June.
Other fights rumored to take place at WEC 44 include former WEC lightweight champion Rob McCullough vs. Anthony Pettis, L.C. Davis vs. Diego Nunes, and Cub Swanson vs. John Franchi among others.
