Even at 43-years-old, mixed martial arts pioneer Don Frye continues to compete with successful results. Frye picked up his 20th career victory on Saturday night, scoring a quick, first-round submission of former training partner and judo practitioner Rich Moss at Shark Fights 4.
Frye and Moss came into the bout as heated rivals. Both claimed that they had been the top student under a former trainer and that a fight between the two had been brewing for years. After a brief exchange on the feet to start the fight, Moss grabbed Frye and attempted a judo throw. However Frye countered the move and ended up taking Moss’ back, swiftly sinking in a rear-naked choke and forcing a tapout just over two minutes into the proceedings.
“Ultimate Fighter 7” alumnus Jesse Taylor was also victorious on the card, submitting Eric DaVila in the first round of their featured bout. However potential soon-to-be “TUF” cast member Rex Richards suffered his second professional loss, falling via fourth-round TKO to Shark Fights heavyweight title holder Darrill Schoonover.
