It looks like the epic heavyweight showdown between Fedor Emelianenko and Josh Barnett may be in serious jeopardy. According to reports, Barnett’s pre-fight drug test, administered by the California State Athletic Commission, may have come back with positive results.
Sherdog.com spoke with Barnett, who said, “I took my test three weeks ago. I would have thought I would have heard something by now. No matter what happens with this. I can assure you I will clear my name. This will not be something that I am defined by.”
If the news is true, this untimely incident will likely spell the end of Affliction Entertainment who placed all their eggs in the Fedor-Barnett basket.
Sherdog.com is reporting that Vitor Belfort, who is scheduled to face Jorge Santiago, has agreed in principle to face Fedor on 11 days notice. Heavyweight prospect Bobby Lashley is also said to be in the running.
Lashley told Sherdog.com, “I don’t know if I would want it right now. Since the last fight, I haven’t really been into training again. That fight is next week. That would be something I would really have to take a look at. To just jump in there probably wouldn’t be the smartest thing for me right now.”
