Lightweight contender Diego “Nightmare” Sanchez has signed a new eight-fight contract with the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
The first bout on Sanchez’s new deal will come December 12 in Memphis, Tennessee when he vies for the UFC lightweight title in a battle with current champion B.J. “The Prodigy” Penn.
Sanchez, a native of Albuquerque, New Mexico, possesses a mixed martial arts record of 21-2. Sanchez holds victories over the likes of Kenny Florian, Brian Gassaway, Nick Diaz, John Alessio, Karo Parisyan, Joe Riggs, David Bielkheden, and Luigi Fioravanti. Sanchez’s two blemishes came to American Kickboxing Academy welterweights Jon Fitch and Josh Koscheck.
Since making the drop to lightweight in February 2009, Sanchez has secured decision victories over contenders Joe Stevenson and Clay “The Carpenter” Guida.

Sanchez will get smashed by Penn so it’s a good thing he has a contract. Then he will be able to start from the bottom and work his way back to probably another Penn beating. In my opinion, Sanchez should’ve had to face Florian, Maynard,Frankie Edgar or Sherk before getting a shot at the belt. So he beat Joe Stevenson and Guida…......Big whoop. When he faces Penn, he will realize that he is out of his league.
