UFC Hall-of-Famer Randy Couture is expected to drop down to the light heavyweight division for a bout against talented kickboxer Brandon Vera that would serve as the main event for UFC 105, a Spike TV-televised event scheduled for the Manchester Evening News Arena in Manchester, England on November 15.
Several reports concerning the matchup have been posted within the last few hours. The UK-based Daily Telegraph was the first to report the news. The UFC will likely announce the bout this coming week.
Couture (16-10) will fight at light heavyweight for the first time since suffering his second straight loss to former champion Chuck Liddell and entering a temporary retirement. “The Natural” has spent his time since then as a heavyweight, winning UFC title bouts against Tim Sylvia and Gabriel Gonzaga before falling to Brock Lesnar and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira in his last two appearances.
Since opting to drop down to 205 lbs over a year ago, Vera (11-3) has won three out of his last four fights. He most recently competed at UFC 102 on August 28, winning a three-round unanimous decision over Krzysztof Soszynski.
Michael Bisping vs. Denis Kang and Dan Hardy vs. Dong-Hyun Kim remain the only officially announced bouts for UFC 105. Additionally rumored fights include James Wilks vs. Matt Brown, Ross Pearson vs. Aaron Riley, and Terry Etim vs. Shannon Gugerty.
