Now at a crossroads after losing his belt to Brock Lesnar, former UFC heavyweight champion Randy Couture is now considering a possible return to the light heavyweight division, where he held the UFC’s 205. lb title on two separate occasions.

Couture reportedly told UFC Fight Club members at a question-and-answer session after Friday afternoon’s weigh-ins for UFC 92 that he would be open to returning to light heavyweight if an interesting fight would be offered to him:

“I could do [cut to 205 pounds],” Couture said. “I’m walking around at 225 (pounds), the same place I was when I went down to light-heavyweight before. So it’s a possibility if an interesting fight came up there, and it made sense.”

Couture also said that his willingness to drop to 205 pounds wasn’t in response to the huge size disadvantage he faced in his November title bout with new champion Brock Lesnar.

While a dream matchup between Couture and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira seems like the planned road that the UFC will take for both fighters, plenty of interesting bouts are available for Couture at 205 lbs. if he remains interested in continuing to fight. Who wouldn’t want to see a battle between Couture and “Rampage” Jackson or maybe even Rich Franklin?
