UFC President Dana White just entered the UFC octagon and broke the news the PRIDE Middleweight Champion Wanderlei Silva will take on UFC LHW Champion Chuck Liddell in November.
This is huge, fans knew that Silva and the PRIDE President would be in attendance but no one knew why. Our question has been answered and fans will now get to see their dream match up.

I am speechless! I read on The Underground the other day that there was going to be a big announcement but everyone seemed to blow it off. Thank god Dana was able to put this fight together, he earns a ton of respect in my books.

This is awsome. I think Chuck is a great fighter, but Silva will win. He is unreal. I honestly can’t see Chuck winning this fight. Silva has great stand-up, and he is just unreal. I think he can knock Chuck out in the first round. Silva beat alot of big names, not only in Pride’s Middleweight league. I wish I could fast forward time, because this is bigger than anything…. ( well if Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Silva fought that would be awsome too ), but this is a fight that everyone has been waiting to see for a long time. I believe that because Quinton Jackson beat Chuck, and Silva beat Quinton Jackson twice, there is no reason why Silva can’t beat Chuck.
Thanks,
daDude

Silva has been asking for this fight for a long time. Hands down silva has better stand up they are even on the ground. This fight will be all stand up. The reason Chuck lost to Jackson in pride is the 1st round time difference he gassed. If Chuck fights Jackson in the UFC he KOs him in the 2nd round. Silva on the other hand has the best chin in MMA remember the shots from Hunt crazy. Chuck would never fight in a open weight fight his is a one weight class guy. I call it Silva in 3 and a war chuck will never quit. I would like to see Tito fight the winner Silva has some unfinished business there. Looking forward to this one.. BULL

Yeah your right,
Chuck probably did get tired in the first round because the pride rounds are longer. Which is safe to say that if Silva can compete in 10 minute rounds, then he should have no problem with 5 mins. I’ve been a Silva fan now for awhile. And yes I would love to see Tito fight Silva again. Because you know what, I think Tito isn’t much better than what he was in 2000 when he beat Silva. But Silva keeps getting better and better.
A friend of mine told me that Silva would never fight in the UFC because he takes steroids…. I don’t know if that is true, or if alot of people are jealous of Silva…. But I guess he was wrong because Silva is going to fight UFC. And this might sound weird, but I think Silva should take on Tim Sylvia and teach him a lesson too. He thinks he is unbeatable, it would be funny if he lost to Silva, a smaller, lighter guy…. ( This will never happen, I know ). But unlike alot of fighters who fight for UFC, and UFC rules, etc…..Silva can pretty much adapt to anything because he is so good.
I don’t know guys, I just feel that Silva is the real deal. I know he can be beat, but it’s not gonna be by Chuck. Silva is use to fighting touch, bigger guys for 10 minutes, and I think Chuck is gonna learn his lesson. I think alot of the UFC fighters are gonna take a beating this year or early next year, especially if Dana White get the Pride FC guys over….....Tim Sylvia thinks no matter who they get, he can beat them….So do Chuck, but we will see in November, when Silva KO’s him out….....
Thanks,
daDude

Dadude: “I believe that because Quinton Jackson beat Chuck, and Silva beat Quinton Jackson twice, there is no reason why Silva can’t beat Chuck.” If this statement is true why is this one not: “Chuck beat down Tito, and Vitor Belfort, two guys that beat Silva pretty convincingly”. As a matter of fact, Belfort beat Silva down in about 15 seconds with a flurry of punches that looked very similar to the way Chuck throws. I think Chuck will win beat Babalu again and beat Silva as well.

the belfort, silva fight was a long time ago, 8 years ago to be exact. Silva is a different beast now. Silva’s chin, ground game, strikes, speed, power, precision, etc. puts Chuck Liddell to shame. I like both fighters, but I don’t see Chuck winning this fight, in both UFC or Pride rules. Silva is just a better fighter, hands down.

Yeah, I think if people are going to analyze fights, try to use current stuff (well, at least in the last few years ). I think Silva has achieved so much since Belfort back in 98. He can compete in his own class, and with the heavy weight fighters. I just can’t see Chuck knocking him out, if Hunt or Kazuyuki Fujita. Fujita knocked him down 2 times, but Silva recovered and Fujita was 265 lbs at the time. I will give Chuck Liddell all the credit in the world, I like hime, he is tough, and a bad hitter, but I just feel that Silva is a better athlete overall. I guess we will see what happens in Novemver. Let the war begin.
Just a quick note before I go. Tito never achieved what Silva has, either did Belfort, and I don’t thinkd Chuck did either. I believe that if Silva was to fight either one of them again, the result would be way different.
I guess the bottom line is that we all could talk until were blue in the face, and it don’t matter. I respect everyone’s opinion, and I hope you respect mine. In November we will see….I just don’t think I’m going to be dissapionted..
Take care
daDude

Point taken. Either way it should be real exciting to watch. I hope it is better then Silvia/Arlovski III, that was real bummer of a fight. I have to admit I am partial to UFC fighters b/c of my limited exposure to Pride. Were I live, the cable channels just aren’t showing many pride matches. I have only seen one very recently and it was an old Ken Shamrock fight.

Shaqfoo:
Thanks for the comments… Man you should start watching some PrideFc. In my opinion it is more aggressive. Like forexample in Pride, fighters can soccer kick there oponents when they are down, and they can knee to the head. I watch Pride more than UFC. I see fighters in the UFC who could loose the fight if they were in pride, simple because of the knee to the head. For instance, I see fighters who come in for the take down, his opponent sprawls, and that guys head is right by his opponents knees, but in UFC you can’t knee to the head, therefore this position isn’t as dangerous. I’m sure I’ll get comments on this, but this is what I believe.
Perhaps my problem is that other than the fights Chuck had with Randy, Rampage, Belfort, and Horn, I really haven’t seen Liddell fight. So I’m going to rent some UFC’s ( up to 3 years old ), and then make a more accurate decision over the fight. I can tell you that I am a Silva fan, and I want him to win. Also, that he can fight in any weight class and still dominate alot of those fights. ( The loss to Hunt was very controversy. Alot of people felt he won.)
Yeah, I don’t think people shoud compare fights that happened 6 - 10 years ago. If that was the case, Royce Gracie who dominated the UFC back in the early 90’s, should have been able to beat the UFC’s fighters today. But Hughes proved that wrong. MMA is always changing, and alot of fighter don’t realize this until they actually fight today, or fight a top rank fighter.
Well take care
daDude

shaqfoo, go to youtube.com and type in wanderlei silva, they got highlights and some fights of him there. Once you see how Silva fights, you’ll agree that he’ll beat Chuck very easily. Look up Fedor Emelianenko on youtube.com as well. He’s like the Michael Jordan of MMA.

better yet, just watch this video….

I THINK GOOD THINGS ABOUT BOTH FIGHTERS. ITS TOO HARD TO SAY WITH THE RULES AND ROUND DIFFERENCES EXACTLY WHO WILL WIN. UFC IS DOMINANT WHERE THIS THREAD IS READ AND POSTED SO FOR SOME REASON SILVA SEEMS MYSTICAL TO ALOT OF PEOPLE. ONCE THEY ANNOUNCE THE FIGHT PEOPLE START HATING ON CHUCK AND SAY HE WILL FALL WITHOUTH A DOUBT?1!?! HONESTLY I THINK SILVA PROBABLY WILL WIN, BUT HE WILL SQUEAK BY WITH A SOLID PUNCH THAT BREAKS CHUCK DOWN TO SILVAS POWERFUL KNEE STRIKES. THE PROBLEM WITH THAT IS GETTING CLOSE ENOUGH TO CHUCK WITHOUT BEING COUTERED. WE ALL SAW WHAT AGGRESSIVENESS GOT VERNON WHITE WHEN HE FOUGHT CHUCK AND WE SAW WHAT AGGRESSIVENESS GOT RAMPAGE WHEN HE FOUGHT SILVA. TO ME ITS GOING TO COME DOWN TO THE BETTER CHIN, WHICH IS WHY I THINK SILVA WILL **SQUEAK** BY.
LIKE I SAID BEFORE THOUGH, YOU CAN NOT UNDER ESTIMATE CHUCK, I BELIEVE THATS WHAT TITO DID AND WE ALL SAW HOW THAT ENDED.

i know its off subject but how cool would it be to see Aleksander Emeliananko (slaughterd his last name) fight sylvia? along with other pride/UFC mixes.
p.s. i read a forum saying UFC wants to bring Phil Baroni back the same night as Silva!!!!!!
does anyone know for sure?

theMallot - Phil Baroni said he will be fighting on the November UFC card along with Fujita and Silva. Here is a post we did on this…
http://www.mmaontap.com/mma/entry/fujita-and-baroni-scheduled-for-ufc-65/

Guys, I would rather see Silva fight Rich Franklin
non title a weight between 185 and 205 it would be a better fight. Franklin plays the same game with knees and kicks. Silva would have a much harder time with him than Chuck. Silva beats chuck but not as easy as people think. Franklin could win a decision or he gets ko early.BULL

Bull: I just can’t wait for Anderson Silva to fight Franklin. Do you know anything about him. He is a great fighter with awsome standup. Did you see him kick Chris Leben’s ass in 46 seconds. He sure gave Chris a wake up call. I like the way things are going. Anderson fights Franklin, Silva fights Chuck. I wanna see more pride guys come over. I like Tim Sylvia, but he has a fast tongue. He seems to think he can knock out anyone. The pride guys need to put Fedor, or Antonio Rogerio Nogueira against Tim. These guys would give him a run for the title.
But yeah, Franklin vs Wanderlei would make for a good fight. I’m just wondering if Franklin would fight Wanderlei if he didn’t move down a weight class. But this Chuck vs Silva thing has been going on now for some time. Chuck says he can KO Silva, and Silva says he can KO Chuck in less than 5 minutes. I like the way things are going. Before I go, did you see the fight between Fujita and Silva, man that was intense.
Thanks
daDude

thanks for the info on the baroni deal scott white.
also- a fight with franklin would be great, but i would hate to see franklin lose a fight, or see w. silva lose a fight partially due to leaving their comfort weight. so in my opinion stick to your classes to we can see your full potential

daDude, Chris Leban has been spoon fed up untill now and his first fight with a real fighter he got his ass kicked. Now that Dana White has the UFCs business in order the fighters are making good money. That was the reason so many guys went to pride in the first place the paycheck. Arlovski is the only guy from eastern europe in the UFC heavy weight division and he was cleaning up, bring over a couple of the soviets from pride and its a new ballgame. Dont get me wrong for the most part the better guys always end up in the UFC and the UFC bums end up in pride. Just remember W Silva took some bombs from M Hunt and kept going thats a 100 pound weight difference, Chuck would never fight a guy like that. Chuck better beat Sobral. BULL

Yo Mallot, If you want to see the true potential UFC needs to run an open tournament. Be curious to see what UFC guys would enter. Be full of the Ultimate Fighter guys some has beens, none of the title holders would risk the loss (Matt H). A true test of fighting is to test yourself going up or down in weight dont matter, look at gracies last fight he came back to the UFC to see if he could win nothing more nothing less thats CLASS.Remember Silva has to wrap up the tournament in Pride and Chuch has a fight with Sobral. If Chuck looses I want to see Tito go with W again , that would be nice. BULL

Bull:
I would love to see W Silva fight Ortiz again. The first fight they had Ortiz won, but only by decision. And I think he won that fight only because of the take down’s he got. I mean there was one point in the fight where Tito was running across the ring from Silva, because Silva got a few good hits in. Tito didn’t submit or knock him out, and I know ( 100% ), that if W Silva and Tito were to fight again, the outcome would be entirely different.
Silva is perhaps the best fighter in the world, and he can fight in any weight class. Silva will fight anyone, and your absolutely right. Matt Hughes, etc. would never enter an open weight tournment, they have too much to loose. Wanderlei Silva, on the other hand likes to test himself, and he wants to fight the best fighters. I think the fight with Chuck is great for him, and for Chuck too. They are two top notch fighters, and this is the way to see who is the best. NOTE: If Silva wins, he will be the only fighter in history to hold a belt in two organizations…( well that I know of…LOL).
Thanks
daDude

BULL.I think that you saying that to drop 20+ pounds from the weight you normally fight in doesnt make a difference just shows that you only watch sports and do not participate in them. when you lose weight you feel faster but not as strong, and when you gain weight you feel sometimes stronger and slower.
dont get me wrong, a tourney is a great way to prove it, but i dont knwo if the athletic commission woudl allow the league to keep an open weight.

BULL. my apologies, i just read over what i just wrote and it sounds rude, that was not my intention.

Hey Mallot none taken. I boxed for years at 165 lbs, my natural weight at the time was 185. I know how hard it was to make weight it was hard at times. I am 37 now and i train in MMA, SMALL CIRCLE AND BRAZILIAN JUJITSU AND I FIND its easyer to fight bigger guys because its a different game, height will always be a factor due to reach but power is something you are born with. If you have power you can refine it and get stronger if you have none you cant do much, its like your chin you either can take a shot or you cant. I understand the UFC can’t have an open tournament in the USA but I hear the show is going on the road to Japan sometome next year why not do it then. I just think when UFC cleaned up the sport they took the sport out of it. I like the pride rules better it makes for a different type of fight ( knees on the ground) etc.remember the way ins are done a day in advance so guys ore fighting opponents 20 lds heavier at times. You know it takes more out of you droping weight and putting it back on in 24 hours than fighting at a natural weight.BULL

Hey Guys,
I totally agree with Bull. UFC rules are easier on the fighters. I watch fights, and I see opportunities where opponents, if they were in Pride, could knee to the head. The UFC rules just don’t make for a great fight when it goes to the ground. If you watch a fight with Chuck Liddell, or Rich Ranklin, or someone who loves the standup, the fight is awsome. But on the ground, it just seems like something is missing. I think alot of fighters in the UFC, if they were to fight under Pride rules, would fing it alot harder. I watched a fight with Matt Hughes ( I think the one where he fought Joe Riggs ), and if he were in Pride, Hughes would have gotton kneed to the head. I’m not saying he would have lost the fight, but if Riggs could have capatilized on that position, then maybe he would have.
Watch some of Wanderlei’s fights ( preferably the ones where he fought Quinton, Fujita, Hunt, and Sakaraba, etc.). He is violent because of the Pride rules. Forexample, the soccer kicks, etc. I think it is impressive when a fighter can move up or down in weight classes, it means they can adjust and fight anyone. That is amazing. I respect Silva for that ( and you too ).
Take care,
daDude

living in AZ i saw the rules come up and take the sport to its knees first hand. mccain is a camera happy guy.
however i think the rules they have are definately whats allowed the sport to stick around, its helps to say that in the history of the UFC there has never been a “serious” injury or death, when people try to bash it and call it barbaric.
As for an open tourney in Japan, of course im all for that, and you can bet money i will be right there watching it PPV. Hell you can even come over!!
TheMallot

MALLOT, I WILL BE THERE BRO. BULL
