Hoping to bounce back from recent losses, welterweights Josh Burkman and Dustin Hazelett will likely collide in one of the more high-profile fights at The Ultimate Fighter 7 Finale on June 21st.
The news comes from a report by our friends at MMA Junkie. Diego Sanchez is expected to take on American Top Team’s Luigi Fioravanti in a bout that will serve as the show’s main event.
Burkman is coming off of a lackluster majority decision loss to Mike Swick at UFC Fight Night 12 in January. After a promising start that saw Burkman win four out of his first five bouts in the UFC, the former “Ultimate Fighter” contestant has now dropped two out of his last three.
The Utah native has also not finished a fight since submitting Drew Fickett in January 2006. His last five bouts have gone the distance.
Hazelett, who now goes by the nickname “McLovin”, recently had a three-fight winning streak snapped at the hands of standout wrestler Josh Koscheck earlier this month at UFC 82: Pride of a Champion. Koscheck stopped Hazelett with strikes.
The upcoming season of “The Ultimate Fighter” will start on April 2nd, preceded by UFC Fight Night 13, which is slated to be televised in a three-hour Spike TV time slot. Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Forrest Griffin will serve as coaches on the show. Jackson will then defend his UFC light heavyweight title against Griffin at UFC 86 in July.
