In a previously rumored bout, Mike Brown will defend his WEC featherweight championship against streaking top contender Jose Aldo in the main event of WEC 44: “Brown vs. Aldo” on November 18 at the Palms Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.
World Extreme Cagefighting officially announced the matchup today. The event is being held on a Wednesday instead of the WEC’s usual Sunday slot in order to separate the event from UFC 106, which will take place the following Saturday.
Brown (22-4) cemented his status as the world’s top featherweight fighter with his second straight win over Urijah Faber, a successful defense of his featherweight title on June 7. Brown made quick work of Leonard Garcia in his only other title defense back in March.
Winner of five straight WEC bouts, Aldo (15-1) has left little debate as to who is the top challenger to Brown’s belt. The Brazilian has been especially impressive as of late, winning his last three fights in the first round, including an eight-second TKO of Cub Swanson in his most recent showing at WEC 42
