Longtime veteran Phil Baroni was victorious in his first fight since moving down to welterweight, scoring a brutal first-round knockout of Englishman Scott Jansen to snap a three-fight losing streak at Cage Rage’s latest effort, entitled “Step Up” at the Wembley Arena in London.
It was visible that Jansen, although game, was significantly overmatched against Baroni at the start of the fight. Straying away from his usual preference to stand and strike, Baroni shot right in for a takedown just seconds into the bout. After a few minutes of controlling Jansen on the canvas and a near fight-ending submission attempt, the referee opted to bring the fight back to the feet, where Baroni quickly knocked Jansen out with a straight right hand.
Following the conclusion of the bout, Baroni went over to check on the condition of his opponent when he was surprisingly headbutted by one of Jansen’s friends in the cage. However cooler heads prevailed and the situation quickly died down with Baroni laughing it off and the assailant being thrown out of the arena.
The show’s undercard saw Neil Grove earn his second straight win over Robert Berry, Mustapha Al Turk defeat James McSweeney for the vacant Cage Rage British heavyweight title, and Robbie Oliver successfully defend his Cage Rage British featherweight title over Ashleigh Grimshaw.
