Tom Atencio, president of Affliction MMA, has confirmed reports that Josh Barnett has been forced to withdraw from his Aug. 1st bout with Fedor Emelianenko.
Atencio spoke with AOL’s MMA FanHouse where he said, “He tested positive for a banned substance. The athletic commission will not reinstate his license. Him and Fedor is off.”
When asked about Barnett’s replacement, Atencio told MMAWeekly.com, “Right now, it’s rumors. I’m working on something and I think anybody that knows me knows I’m not going to say anything until I have something finalized. At this point everything’s rumors. I am working towards finding somebody, but until I have contracts signed I’m not saying anything.”
Replacement or not, Atencio and company still plan on moving forward with the Affliction: Trilogy show though the loss of Barnett has been a major blow.
