Former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski is now focusing on making his professional boxing debut months after his disappointing knockout loss to perennial heavyweight king Fedor Emelianenko at Affliction’s “Day of Reckoning” show in January.

According to Michael David Smith, Golden Boy Promotions has inked “The Pitbull” for a six-round heavyweight bout on a June 27 fight card, which will be headlined by a WBA featherweight title bout between Rocky Juarez and Chris John:

Former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski will make his professional boxing debut in two months, and the legendary boxing trainer Freddie Roach says he expects Arlovski to impress.

Roach told me Tuesday that Golden Boy Promotions has signed Arlovski for a six-round fight on its June 27 show. No opponent has been determined, but Roach said that whoever it is, he thinks Arlovski will be ready to show off his punching power.

“Andrei is going to be aggressive, using his strength and his reach advantage and his height,” Roach said. “He’s going to be aggressive and looking for a knockout.”

The article also goes on to say that Arlovski is now focusing on boxing following his loss to Emelianenko. Here’s to hoping that the decision is only temporary and that Andrei is considering returning to action (inside a cage or ring) relatively soon. He made great strides after his release from the UFC, and can at least find some solace in the fact that before he was caught, Fedor was being given a run for his money for the first time in a long time.
