Afternoon News and Notes 3/27/07

Such a huge day already…

- We are planning on releasing the brand new MMA on Tap Fighter Rankings later today.

- Touching on a few things that I didn’t mention in the live blog…

Even though it wasn’t mentioned at the press conference, Dana White was quoted in an article done by the Las Vegas Review-Journal as saying that PRIDE will now feature the same set of rules that are currently used in the UFC…

“This is a sport and we’re going to follow the unified rules that were established in New Jersey and then in Nevada,” White said. “It’s a sport—mixed martial arts—and the sport should have the same rules everywhere. As far as I’m concerned, if an organization doesn’t follow these rules, it’s not MMA. It’s something else, but that’s not MMA.”

- White also went ahead to say that UFC will stay with the Octagon and PRIDE will continue to use a ring.

- The UFC 61: Bitter Rivals DVD hit stores today…

- ESPN got in on the UFC/PRIDE action, posting the AP article in their “More Sports” section.

- As if the the UFC and PRIDE getting together isn’t enough, rumors are floating around about a merger/working agreement between K-1, Strikeforce, Elite XC, Cage Rage, and ICON Sport…
