Affliction: Banned Live Results

We will be going live at 7:00 PM ET with live results of tonight’s Affliction: Banned, the inaugural mixed martial arts show for the popular California-based clothing company, which will take place this evening at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.

The show features a main event years in the making between former PRIDE title holder and perennial top heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko and five-time UFC champion Tim Sylvia. Other notable fights on the card include a rematch between Josh Barnett and Pedro Rizzo, a sure-fire war on the feet between Andrei Arlovski and Ben Rothwell, and the return to active competition of former Olympic wrestler Matt Lindland as he faces Brazilian submission wizard Fabio Negao.

Gary Goodridge vs. Paul Buentello

Round 1: Buentello comes firing out of the gate, sticking jabs in Goodridge’s face. Goodridge lands some low kicks before they clinch up against the ropes, where Buentello lands some uppercuts. They separate and then trade on the feet. Buentello is getting the better of the exchanges. Goodridge continues to land leg kicks but they prove to be uneffective as Buentello starts to land an array of strikes. Goodridge mounts a comeback towards the end of the round, landing a couple of right hands before time expires. MMA on Tap scores the round 10-9 Buentello.

Round 2: The second round starts similar to the first as Goodridge continues to go with leg kicks while Buentello wants to clinch and unleash some dirty boxing. Some more exchanges ensue with Buentello again getting the better of them. Goodridge tries a takedown but eats an uppercut for his efforts. Buentello pushes Goodridge into the cage but eats a couple of overhand rights after they separate. Buentello stuffs another takedown. Goodridge charges forward but Buentello counters with a flurry of punches that stun Goodridge, however the veteran survives the round. MMA on Tap scores the round 10-9 Buentello.

Round 3: Once again, Goodridge with leg kicks and Buentello trying to clinch to start the round. Buentello is scoring with the jab. Goodridge misses with a high kick and then a wild left. Buentello lands a flying knee to the body of Goodridge but “Big Daddy” does a good job of regaining his composure. The rest of the round is all Buentello as he attacks a fatigued Goodridge with a mix of punches, another flying knee, and some leg kicks. MMA on Tap scores the round 10-9 Buentello and the fight 30-27 Buentello. The judges agree.

Vitor Belfort vs. Terry Martin

Round 1: Slow start as the two measure each other up. Belfort lands a nice body kick. Martin rushes and misses with a right. Martin shoots in for a takedown and clinches. Belfort throws a knee and backs off. Belfort tags Martin with a combination. A wild exchange leads to more clinching in the corner. The crowd is booing heavily. Martin tags Belfort with an overhand right. The pace slows with each pawing away with the jab. Martin misses with a quick left-right combo. Belfort jabs away until the end of the round. MMA on Tap scores the round 10-9 for Belfort.

Round 2: Martin catches Belfort with a left hook to start things. Belfort responds with a stiff jab. Belfort lands another body kick and then catches Martin with a left hand. Martin drops down for a body shot and Belfort nails him with a left. Belfort lands another body kick and Martin takes Belfort down. Belfort sweeps Martin and they stand back up. Belfort lands a flying knee that stuns Martin. He follows up with a right hook and a straight left that knocks Martin out. Martin is sitting against the ropes unaware of what is going on. Amazing finish.

Mike Pyle vs. J.J. Ambrose

Round 1: They clinch right away to start things off. They move into the corner where Pyle picks Ambrose up and slams him to the ground. Ambrose scrambles and Pyle takes his back. He works for a rear naked choke but Ambrose flips, allowing Pyle to sink in a arm-triangle. Ambrose finds his way out again and gives up his back for a second time. Pyle is pounding away and Ambrose is doing nothing. Pyle sinks in a rear naked choke and Ambrose taps out. Total domination.

Winner: Mike Pyle - Submission (Rear Naked Choke)

Antonio Rogerio Nogueira vs. Edwin Dewees

Round 1: Dewees working the kicks early. Nogueira is looking to score with the straight left. Nogueira backs Dewees into the ropes and in an odd series of events, Dewees stands back, holding the ropes, and kicks at Nogueira. They clinch up in the corner before breaking. Nogueira shoves Dewees in the corner again and causes him to fall down by way of knees. Nogueira works some good ground-and-pound before standing up. Dewees throws a high kick. Nogueira lands a knee to the body and hurts Dewees. Dewees crumbles to the ground after absorbing some more strikes. Nogueira pounces on him and pounds away until Herb Dean stops the bout.

Winner: Antonio Rogerio Nogueira - TKO (Strikes)

Matt Lindland vs. Fabio Negao

Round 1: Lindland knocks Negao down a right hand just seconds into the round. He immediately flops down and locks in a guillotine. He flips to his stomach to increase pressure. Negao flips Lindland over but Lindland flips back and continues to hold the choke. Negao stays composed and eventually gets out of it. Lindland remains on top and starts working some ground-and-pound. Lindland lands a big elbow. Lindland stands up and Negao pushes him away. They stand up and Lindland lands a body kick. They exchange on the feet until the end of the round. MMA on Tap scores the round 10-8 Lindland.

Round 2: Lindland lands a body kick to start off the round. Negao stuns Lindland with a standing elbow. Lindland backs up, stunned, and Negao chases after him. More elbows landing from Negao as Lindland wobbles. They go toe-to-toe with punches in the corner. Lindland catches Negao with a right hand. Lindland controls Negao in the corner and works some ground-and-pound. Negao slides under the ropes and referee Josh Rosenthal restarts them in the corner but the bell sounds to end the round. MMA on Tap scores the round 10-9 Lindland.

Round 3: Lindland lands an overhand left to start the round. Negao backtracks. Negao throwing close elbows in the clinch while Lindland does some dirty boxing. Lindland lands a head kick and Negao continues to backtrack. Lindland lands a jumping knee. Negao is gassed. Negao tries a standing guillotine but Lindland easily gets out. They sloppily trade on the feet. Lindland is fatigued as well. Negao lands a nice body shot. Lindland shoots for a takedown against the ropes and Negao goes through and hits the scorers table. The bout restarts and Lindland connects with a knee. They continue to trade until the end of the round. MMA on Tap scores the round 10-9 Lindland and the fight 30-26 Lindland. The judges all score it 30-27.

Renato Sobral vs. Mike Whitehead

Round 1: They each come out throwing to start things off. Each are sticking jabs in each other’s face. Babalu lands a hard leg kick. They clinch up against the ropes but nothing really happens. Babalu misses with a high kick. Whitehead shoots for a takedown but Babalu stuffs it. They clinch up in the corner again before separating. Whitehead catches Babalu with an uppercut. Babalu lands a leg kick and Whitehead clinches. They break apart and Babalu scores a takedown. They trade back and forth until the round ends. MMA on Tap scores the round 10-9 Babalu.

Round 2: Whitehead rushes Babalu and clinches up against the ropes early in the round. Not much happening. Eventually Whitehead just decides to take Babalu down to the ground. They get too close to the ropes and the referee moves them to the center. Babalu works for an omoplata but can’t complete it. Babalu nearly catches Whitehead in an armbar. The referee stands them back up. Babalu lands an elbow and then misses with a spinning back fist. They clinch and exchange knees in the corner until the end of the round. Whitehead is mounting little to no offensive on the ground. MMA on Tap scores the round 10-9 Babalu.

Round 3: Babalu attempts an axe kick and misses allowing Whitehead to shoot in for a takedown. Babalu catches him in a guillotine on the way down but he goes through the ropes and the bout is restarted on the feet. Whitehead takes Babalu down through the ropes again. Babalu locks in a gulliotine and drops down to the mat. Whitehead gets out and gets on top of Babalu. The Brazilian nearly gets Whitehead in another omoplata but Whitehead gets out. They stand up and Babalu grazes Whitehead with a spinning roundhouse kick. Babalu goes for a takedown but can’t get it just before the round ends. MMA on Tap scores the round 10-9 Babalu and the fight 29-28 for Babalu as well. The judges agree.

Savant Young vs. Mark Hominick

Round 1: Young scores with a leg kick and a right hand. Young ducks under a looping right from Hominick. Both fighters attempting to get in the pocket and right out with their punches. Hominick seems to be the more aggressive striker, backing Young into the corner multiple times. Hominick lands two lefts. Young lands a body shot and a leg kick. Hominick cracks him with a straight left. Hominick did a good job of controlling the round. MMA on Tap scores the round 10-9 for Hominick.

Round 2: Young lands a couple of jabs and a right to start the round. Hominick going in and out with the jab and an uppercut. Young with a hard leg kick. Hominick responds with his own. Young goes for a takedown and eventually trips Hominick to the canvas. Hominick sweeps Young and nearly catches him in a triangle. Hominick latches on another triangle but Young slams his way out of it. Young lands three straight rights but finds himself in an armbar. He gets out of it before finding himself in a triangle and then an armbar which forces Young to tap out.

Josh Barnett vs. Pedro Rizzo

Round 1: The two exchange on the feet to start the proceedings, but nothing of note really lands. Barnett shoots in for a takedown but Rizzo stuffs it. Barnett follows up with a left hand that lands. Barnett then lands a leg kick. Rizzo isn’t very aggressive. Barnett is stalking Rizzo but isn’t able to land anything. Barnett pushes Rizzo away with two front kicks before attempting to clinch but Rizzo just pushes him aside. Barnett lands a couple of leg kicks before the round ends. MMA on Tap scores the round 10-9 Barnett.

Round 2: Both swinging hard to start the round. Barnett lands a looping left. They continue to exchange on the feet when out of nowhere, Barnett lands a powerful left hook that puts Rizzo down for the count. Revenge in the rematch for Josh Barnett.

Andrei Arlovski vs. Ben Rothwell

Round 1: Rothwell throws a 1-2 to begin the fight. Arlovski responds with leg kicks. Another kick from Arlovski. They clinch and break. A jab lands for each. Rothwell throws wild rights as he presses forward. They clinch in the corner and Arlovski takes Rothwell down. Arlovski rolls for a heel hook but Rothwell gets out of it. They stand up and clinch some more. They break and Arlovski starts to tee off on Rothwell with rights. Another right lands for Arlovski and a leg kick before the round ends. MMA on Tap scores the round 10-9 Arlovski.

Round 2: Rothwell comes out aggressive to start the round but is quickly thwarted by an Arlovski right hand. Arlovsi presses forward and starts throwing rights at will. Rothwell covers up in the corner while Arlovski pounds away. Arlovski lets Rothwell out of the corner and then takes him down. After some ground-and-pound, Arlovski goes for a weak heel hook. Rothwell stands up and gets on top of Arlovski. Blood is coming out of Rothwell’s nose. The referee stands them up after about a minute and Arlovski pounds away with lefts, rights, and a jumping knee before the round ends. MMA on Tap scores the round 10-8 Arlovski.

Round 3: Rothwell flurries and pushes Arlovski into the corner. Arlovski breaks free and lands a big right. Arlovski lands another right and follows it up with an uppercut that floors Rothwell. Rothwell is down and out. Very impressive performance from “The Pitbull”.

Winner: Andrei Arlovski - KO (Punch)

Fedor Emelianenko vs. Tim Sylvia

Round 1: They measure each other up to start things off. Fedor cracks Sylvia with a left-right combination. He follows it up with some uppercuts and more looping punches until Sylvia crumples to the mat. Fedor hops on Sylvia’s back, sinks in the rear naked choke, and Sylvia taps out. All it took was 36 seconds. Amazing.

Winner: Fedor Emelianenko - Submission (Rear Naked Choke)
