Despite displaying a crafty ground game and an effective arsenal of punches and kicks, Hatsu Hioki came out on the losing end of a split decision to Clay Guida in the featured bout during the UFC on FOX 6 prelims on Saturday night.
The crowd inside of Chicago's United Center was clearly behind their native son in Guida, but "The Carpenter" drew scattered boos over the course of three rounds due to a stagnant offense, which saw Guida controlling Hioki on the ground, but not offering much in terms of punishment.
Hioki took the the first round on two of the judge's scorecards by making Guida miss on the feet, while scoring with a barrage of punches, kicks and knees. The second stanza saw Guida turn the tide with some hard leg kicks and a huge slam that put Hioki on his back for the majority of the round. The Japanese veteran still managed to keep things close however courtesy of a couple of submission attempts and a head kick that landed flush as the round closed.

My predictions are after the jump.
Ben Askren is evolving.
On a night that many expected Askren's smothering top position and submissions to do Karl Amoussou in, it was Askren's new ground-and-pound that put away the Frenchman in his latest Bellator welterweight title defense in the main event of Bellator 86 on Thursday night at the Winstar World Casino in Thackerville, Oklahoma.
Prior to the bout, Askren predicted a finish and he delivered. It was his second stoppage under the Bellator banner and his first since he submitted Ryan Thomas in his promotional debut back in April 2010.
Check back here at 8 PM ET for the live Bellator 86 preliminary bouts, which are topped by a welterweight contest between returning Bellato tourney vet Raul Amaya and seasoned Brazilian fight circuit veteran Jose Gomes.
