Jinnies to Replace Smith at PFC 4

Brandon Jinnies will replace Shad Smith as Poppies Martinez’s opponent in the PFC Lightweight Championship bout at this Thursday’s PFC 4: Project Complete at the Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino in Lemoore, CA.

Smith was originally scheduled to face Martinez but was forced to pull out of the bout after being medically suspended by the California State Athletic Commission following a knockout loss to Nam Phan at EFWC: The Untamed earlier this month.

Martinez wasn’t very happy about Smith not being able to fight:

“This sucks. I trained hard for Shad, not that the training was a waste of time, but I wanted my revenge,” Martinez said. “This is like a slap in the face. His actions weren’t only disrespectful to me but to the promoter and the fans. I really don’t know why he thought that Nam Phan would be a good fight for him. Nam is a great fighter. I’ve rolled with him before, and he is tough.”

Smith apparently also violated an agreement in his contract with PFC according to PFC President Christian Printup:

“Obviously I was pissed when Shad Smith took the fight with Nam Phan knowing he was in violation of our agreement,” Printup said. “At the end of the day a man’s word is all he has, and now we know Shad Smith’s word and signature isn’t worth the paper it’s written on. I fault his inept management team for allowing this to happen. If I were Shad Smith I would seriously rethink my choice of management.”

Despite all of this, Printup also stated that Smith will face the winner of Martinez-Jinnes on January 17th of next year.
