Former EliteXC star Kimbo Slice will step into the UFC’s Octagon for the first time to face former IFL heavyweight champion and “TUF 10” tournament favorite Roy Nelson on next week’s episode on Spike. Above is a little video previewing the bout between the two.

Can’t really call it Kimbo-Shamrock if that didn’t happen, can we?  After some technical difficulties preventing live blogging, it’s time to post the results.

For those unaware: Ken Shamrock was not able to get doctor’s clearance for the fight.  Seth Petruzelli (TUF 2) took his place to fight Kimbo Slice.

Results:

Seth Petruzelli def. Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson - TKO (Strikes)
Jake Shields def. Paul Daley - Submission (Armbar)
Andrei Arlovski def. Roy Nelson - KO
Gina Carano def. Kelly Kobold - Unanimous Decision
Benji Radach def. Murilo “Ninja” Rua - TKO (Strikes)
Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos def. Yoko Takahashi - Unanimous Decision
Connor Heun def. Edson Berto - TKO (Strikes)
Mikey Gomez def. Lorenzo Borgomeo - Submission (Armbar)
Bryan Hamade def. David Gomez - Submission (Guillotine)
Nicolae Cury def. Jorge Bouchat - Submission (Reverse Triangle)

Yup, you read that right, Kimbo was TKO’d.  Not only that, but he was TKO’d in 14 seconds.  Shocker?  A little, but not completely, despite the popularity difference.

EliteXC announced a sellout, and ratings may have been good for the event, but with Kimbo dispatched so quickly, EliteXC’s possible success tonight will be overshadowed by their biggest draw falling so fast.

A welterweight bout between IFL veteran Brett Cooper and undefeated prospect Patrick Speight will reportedly finalize Affliction’s “Day of Reckoning” card, which will take place on October 11th at the Thomas & Mack Center on the campus of UNLV according to a report by MMA News.

Affliction VP Tom Atencio was said to have confirmed Cooper vs. Speight as the final bout to be signed for the event yesterday. Both fighters were originally scheduled to be part of Affliction’s “Banned” show on July 19 but were removed from the card due to unknown reasons.

Surprises and Switches at Affliction Presser

Affliction Entertainment held a press conference earlier this afternoon at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas to confirm a quartet of fights and reveal broadcast details for the promotion’s scheduled “Day of Reckoning” event, which will take place on October 11th at the Thomas & Mack Center on the campus of UNLV.

Among the bouts officially announced today by Affliction Vice President Tom Atencio included two previously reported bouts: a rematch between IFL light heavyweight champion Vladimir Matyushenko and longtime divisional contender Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and a middleweight contest between former UFC standouts Vitor Belfort and Matt Lindland.

Report: Nelson-White Set for Affliction II

IFL heavyweight champion Roy Nelson will return to action with a new deal under Affliction Entertainment in tow as he will take on fellow new acquisition and Xtreme Couture member Jay White at the promotion’s scheduled “Day of Reckoning” show on October 11th at the Thomas & Mack Center on the campus of UNLV in Las Vegas.

White confirmed the bout over the weekend at the International MMA Expo in Long Beach, California, with MMANews.com, stating that he had signed a three-fight contract with Affliction and “that Nelson was the opponent given to him.” Nelson, along with many other IFL-contracted fighers, was reportedly released from the company late last week.

The 32-year-old Lion’s Den product won the vacant IFL heavyweight title belt last December when he bested Bryan Vetell and Antoine Jaoude to win a four-man grand prix tournament. Nelson then made two consecutive successful defenses of his championship, scoring first-round TKO wins over Fabiano Scherner and then “Ultimate Fighter 2” runner-up Brad Imes.

More Details on EliteXC’s Next Show on CBS

Robbie Lawler. Photo by Esther Lin/EliteXC.

With EliteXC’s next network television event on CBS being officially announced for July 26th, additional details have surfaced regarding a potential venue for the show, some of the participants on the card, and the potential of featuring three title fights on the broadcast as well.

In his latest column for Yahoo! Sports, Dave Meltzer is reporting that EliteXC officials will work with executives from both Showtime and CBS on a dual-network show that would have Showtime air a 60-90 minute lead-in show that would feature a couple of preliminary fights before the main card goes live on CBS later that night, marking the first time in the history of this sport where two networks have combined to air a single event.

The promotion has already revealed the main event of the show as EliteXC middleweight champion Robbie Lawler will go head-to-head with Scott Smith in an anticipated rematch of their exciting bout that took place just two weeks ago during Memorial Day weekend. The first bout between the two ended in a no-contest after Lawler inadvertently poked Smith in the eye in the third round of their bout.

The ringside doctor ultimately ruled that Smith was unable to continue due to vision problems, despite protests from Smith himself to let the fight continue. However after the fight, Smith admitted that he would have likely been knocked out by Lawler because he couldn’t fully see out of his eye. Distraught as well after the fight was Lawler, who may now find solace in the fact that EliteXC officials have been working to bring the event to his hometown of St. Louis. Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall seems to be the second option.
