UFC on FOX 6 Predictions

Demetrious Johnson. Photo by Amy Walton Photography.

In what is now becoming a yearly tradition, the UFC returns to Chicago in January for UFC on FOX 6, which takes place Saturday night at the United Center.

The UFC's latest network television special is headlined by another title fight. This time the flyweights take the stage as Demetrious Johnson defends his belt for the first time against fellow speedster and top contender John Dodson. Quinton "Rampage" Jackson will also fight for what could be the last time in the UFC, taking on rising light heavyweight Glover Teixeira.

My predictions are after the jump.

Melvin Guillard promises that he'll be either fighting for the UFC lightweight title or going undefeated for a second straight year in 2011. He's off to a running start.

Guillard put on one of his most impressive performances to date, easily dispatching of the world-ranked Evan Dunham with a barrage of punches and knees in the first round of their main event bout at the UFC's second "Fight for the Troops" event at Fort Hood, TX.

"I want my title shot. I'm the dark horse in this game at 155. No disrespect to anybody in my weight class, but I am the best 155-pound fighter in the UFC," Guillard said after the fight. "You keep lining them up and I'll keep knocking them down, and I will go undefeated in 2011, and I will get a title by the end of 2011 or by 2012 at the latest."

Former WEC light heavyweight champion Steve Cantwell received a $30,000 bonus after earning “Submission of the Night” honors following his first-round submission win over UFC newcomer Razak Al-Hussan during the UFC’s “Fight for the Troops” card in Fayetteville, North Carolina on Wednesday night.

Cantwell forced referee Mario Yamasaki to halt his main card bout against Al-Hussan in the first round after Cantwell dislocated his opponent’s right elbow with a fight-ending armbar. Contrary to reports immediately after the event, Al-Hussan’s arm was never broken and he has since been treated at a nearby hospital and released.

Josh Koscheck also received “Knockout of the Night” honors for his brutal first-round stoppage of Japanese welterweight Yoshiyuki Yoshida while lightweights Matt Wiman and Jim Miller were awarded for the night’s best fight. Koscheck, Wiman, and Miller each received $30,000 bonuses as well.
