The card will be headlined by a lightweight title bout between Satoru Kitaoka and Mizuto Hirota. Also on the card is the featherweight tournament semifinals featuring Michihiro Omigawa vs. Marlon Sandro and Hatsu Hioki vs. Takeshi Numajiri.

Sengoku 9 Weigh-In Results

All of the combatants for World Victory Road’s Sengoku 9 card successfully made weight in preparation for their bouts on Sunday at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan.

The card will be headlined by a lightweight title bout between Satoru Kitaoka and Mizuto Hirota. The card will also feature the featherweight tournament semifinals and the return of Japanese star Akihiro Gono.

Four Bouts Announced for “Ninth Battle”

World Victory Road today announced four fights scheduled for their Sengoku “Ninth Battle” event on August 2 in Japan, including the pairings for the one-night semifinal tournament that will crown the promotion’s first-ever featherweight champion.

Undefeated Brazilian prospect Marlon Sandro will be facing upstart Japanese veteran Michihiro Omigawa in one semifinal bout, while tournament favorite Hatsu Hioki will go up against Masanori Kanehara in the other. The winners will end up fighting in the show’s main event.

In addition, Sengoku lightweight champion Satoru Kitaoka will defend his title against slick striker Mizuto Hirota and Kazuo Misaki and Kazuhiro Nakamura will collide in a battle of former PRIDE Fighting Championships standouts that will have the winner face middleweight title holder Jorge Santiago later in the year.

Report: Sandro vs. Omigawa, Hioki vs. Kanehara Set for Sengoku GP

The pairings for the one-night semifinal tournament that will crown Sengoku’s first-ever featherweight champion have reportedly been set for the organization’s “Ninth Battle” event on August 2 in Japan.

According to Tatame.com, undefeated Brazilian prospect Marlon Sandro has revealed that he will be facing upstart Japanese veteran Michihiro Omigawa in one semifinal bout, while tournament favorite Hatsu Hioki will go up against Masanori Kanehara in the other. The winners will end up fighting in the show’s main event.

Sandro has won all fourteen of his professional bouts to start his career. After scoring a second-round submission of Matt Jaggers in the opening round of the tourney, Sandro needed only 19 seconds to knock out previously undefeated Nick Denis earlier this month.
