Report: Galvao to Return to WEC in Early 2009

Brazilian bantamweight Marcos Galvao has revealed that he will likely return to the confines of World Extreme Cagefighting to take on newcomer Rafael Rebello at a yet-to-be-announced WEC event that could take place early next year in a recent interview with

“I believe he [does] BJJ, has been fighting constantly and has some MMA fights and I believe he [has] never lost,” Galvao said in the interview. “The deal is [to] train hard and focused to get there do everything I’ve trained. I need to get there and win this fight. I need to start all over again. I’m being very humble… very sincere. I’ll fight a guy who’s debuting in the WEC but he already has some fights and I hope I win.”

After a promising start to his career with a handful of wins under the Shooto banner, Galvao came into the WEC late last December with a good amount of hype, only to suffer a second-round knockout loss to Brian Bowles at WEC 31. Galvao returned to Japan this past September where he drew with Shooto bantamweight champion Masakatsu Ueda.

Rebello, who currently trains at Florida-based American Top Team, is currently riding a four-fight winning streak. The fight against Galvao will be his first since November 2007, when he earned a first-round stoppage of Jeff Willingham at a Pacific Xtreme Combat event in Guam.
