MFC Signs Glover Teixeira

Light heavyweight Glover Teixeira (9-2) has joined the MFC talent pool and is expected to make his organizational debut at the soon-to-be-announced MFC 26 event. The native of Sobralia, Brazil, has scored seven of his nine victories by way of KO/TKO and came highly recommended by several sources, not the least of which was his friend, MFC middleweight title contender Thales Leites.

“When you hear things like ‘He can beat anyone in the division’ and those kinds of statements are coming from well-respected people, you have to take notice,” said MFC Owner/President Mark Pavelich. “I believe that Glover can make an immediate and serious impact in the grand scheme of our light heavyweight picture.

NEW YORK – Can Scott “Hands Of Steel’’ Smith, aka “The Comeback Kid,’’ do it again?

On Saturday, June 26, at HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif., on Showtime, Smith will attempt to make it two consecutive victories over Cung Le in a middleweight (185 pounds) rematch of one of the most incredible Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) comeback victories of all-time.

The eagerly anticipated return bout between Smith (17-6), of Elk Grove, Calif., and Le (6-1), of San Jose, will take place on an already-stacked Strikeforce and M-1 Global fight card that features the world’s No. 1 heavyweight and pound-for-pound MMA fighter, Fedor “The Last Emperor” Emelianenko (31-1),against two-time Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu world champion and top-ranked superstar Fabricio “Vai Cavalo” Werdum (13-4) in the main event.

Lee Murray Sentenced to 10 Years in Prison

UFC veteran “Lightning” Lee Murray has been sentenced to 10 years in a Moroccan prison for his part in the Securitas cash depot heist.

Murray was said to be the “mastermind” behind the heist that saw a team of thieves steal £53 million ($77 million) from a Kent Securitas depot in Tonbridge, England. Due to Murray’s Moroccan background, authorities were unable to get Murray extradited back to the U.K. to stand trial.

Sonnen Speaks on Confrontation With Silva, Calls Other Fighters “Cowards”

Over the past weekend, Twitter was abuzz when it was reported that UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva and challenger Chael Sonnen had a confrontation during the UFC Fan Expo.

“You know, I was really trying to be helpful. Anderson was signing a group of autographs, he looked like he didn’t want to be signing them and I let him know that in two months he won’t have to sign anymore because nobody will care about him again,” said Sonnen on ProMMARadio.com.

Denis Kang Lands Fight on Judgement Day

W-1 MMA has announced that UFC and PRIDE veteran Denis Kang will face Korean sensation Dae Won Kim at W-1: Judgement Day on Saturday, June 19, 2010 at the Colisee de Laval in Laval, Quebec.

The card will also feature the return of Ivan Menjivar, Antonio Carvalho, Thierry Quenneville, and Adrian Wooley.

UFC Opening Office in Toronto, Tom Wright to Serve as Manager

Last Tuesday, UFC officials gathered with the media at the Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario to announce the opening of the Canadian headquarters which is to be located in Toronto and run by former CFL commissioner Tom Wright.

“I’m pleased to announce that we have decided to actually have a presence here in Canada. We will be opening an office here in Canada full-time to show our level of commitment,” said UFC chairman and CEO Lorenzo Fertitta.

Bellator Returns to Mohegan Sun on April 22

CHICAGO — The Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Conn., will play host to Bellator Fighting Championships again this spring when the promotion returns to New England for Bellator XV on April 22.

“The Mohegan Sun is a spectacular casino and resort destination and was a tremendous partner for us twice during Season 1,” said Bellator founder and CEO Bjorn Rebney.  “We are very happy to be returning to the Mohegan Sun for this event on April 22nd.”
