The Ultimate Fighting Championship has announced that UFC 103 will be headlined by a light heavyweight bout featuring former PRIDE welterweight and middleweight champion Dan Henderson taking on former UFC middleweight champion Rich “Ace” Franklin. Also on the card will be a heavyweight bout between Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic and Junior Dos Santos.
Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic
Last week, Fighters Only Magazine broke news that UFC co-owner Lorenzo Fertitta had flown to Zagred, Croatia to meet with Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic
The two talked business and Cro Cop was left with “an offer he cannot refuse.” This comes on the heels of Cro Cop announcing he was leaving the UFC to sign a three-fight contract with DREAM in Japan. This left many people feeling uneasy, including Dana White, as the UFC provided Cro Cop with a special one-fight deal for UFC 99 with the hopes that he’d return to pursue the heavyweight title.

A scheduled light heavyweight bout between Brandon Vera and “Ultimate Fighter 3” product Matt Hamill has reportedly been moved from UFC 101 in Philadelphia to UFC 102, which is expected to take place at the Rose Garden in Portland, Oregon on August 29.
According to MMA Junkie, a reason for the fight being moved has not been given, but the bout is currently in the process of being finalized for the event, which will likely be headlined by former Oregon resident Randy Couture taking on Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.
After a fall from grace in the heavyweight division resulting in two straight losses, Vera dropped down to the 205 lb weight class where he has posted a 2-1 record. A lackluster split decision loss to Keith Jardine is currently sandwiched in between wins over Reese Andy and Mike Patt.

UFC heavyweight contender Fabricio Werdum has reportedly stated that he will return to action at UFC 90: Silva vs. Cote on October 25th, where he’ll likely take on Brazilian fighter Junior “Cigano” dos Santos in a fight that could earn him a shot at the promotion’s heavyweight title next year.
Werdum, who also confirmed that he has signed a new five-fight contract with the UFC, did so in a recent interview with Tatame.com. Werdum states that while dos Santos may not end up being the actual opponent he faces in his next bout, he will be fighting at UFC 90, which will have him complete the last fight on his old contract with the company.
“I was going to fight at October 18th at London, but I made a new five fights contract and they changed it to October 25th at Chicago, probably against Junior Cigano,” Werdum said in the interview. “It’s not 100% right that I’ll face him, but I’ll surely fight at October 25th. It’s my last fight under the old contract and, with a victory, my first new contract’s fight will be for the title.”
After consecutive wins over Gabriel Gonzaga and Brandon Vera, Werdum has bounced back from a disappointing UFC debut against former champion Andrei Arlovski and has solidified himself as the unanimous choice to face the winner of Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Frank Mir’s championship affair later this year. “Cigano” last fought on May 25th, earning a TKO victory over Geronimo Mondragon due to a cut at a Demo Fight event in Salvador, Brazil.
