MMA on Tap April Fighter Rankings

Here are the latest MMA on Tap fighter rankings. We will be updating these every month or whenever an adjustment is needed, like after a major event for example. The rankings break down into seven different lists of ten, each of them by division.

If you ever want to compare these with your own or just take a look at the latest update, you can find them under the "Top 10" category in our features section. The organization a fighter is currently under contract to is listed next to the fighter’s name.

The rankings were tabulated by the MMA on Tap staff. Feel free to chime in with your own lists, thoughts, or suggestions.

— Cub Swanson has reportedly suffered an undisclosed injury in training and has been forced to withdrawal from his upcoming UFC on Versus 3 featherweight bout against Erik Koch. The nature and estimated recovery time for Swanson's injury remain unknown. The UFC is said to be actively searching for a last-minute replacement opponent for Koch. [MMAJunkie.com]

— Bellator is expected to kick off the first round of its latest featherweight tournament on March 19 at the Lucky Star Casino in Concho, OK. Opening-round matchups could include Georgi Karakhanyan vs. Patricio "Pitbull" Friere, Wilson Reis vs. Zac George, Kenny Foster vs. Eric Larkin and Nazareno Malegarie vs. Daniel Straus. Bellator Announces Spanish Language Broadcast Outlets for Season Four

Miami, FL - Tr3s: MTV, Música y Más adds mixed martial arts (MMA) fights to its weekend line-up with the premiere of the 4th season of "Bellator" in Spanish. 

The world class MMA platform will feature the most dynamic fighters in the industry including Latino champs Eddie Alvarez (lightweight) and Hector Lombard (middleweight). "Bellator" in Spanish will premiere every Sunday starting March 6th at 8pm (ET) on Tr3s.

Bellator Fighting Championships is the first MMA promotion to hold a nationally televised tournament format. Unlike other organizations, Bellator's live fights and tournaments are structured so that the fighter's talent and ability determines their rank in the cage.

— The Nevada State Athletic Commission announced on Monday that all 13 fighters tested following UFC 126 were negative for performance-enhancing substances and drugs of abuse. Those tested included Anderson Silva, Vitor Belfort, Rich Franklin, Forrest Griffin, Jake Ellenberger, Jon Jones, Miguel Torres, Donald Cerrone, Chad Mendes, Paul Taylor, DaMarques Johnson, Mike Pierce and Kyle Kingsbury. — A bantamweight bout between former title contender Scott Jorgensen and Ken Stone has reportedly been signed for the TUF 13 Finale on June 4 in Las Vegas. Jorgensen recently fell to UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz via a five-round unanimous decision in December while Stone fell in his Zuffa debut to former champion Eddie Wineland at the same event. Bellator 36 Set for Louisana on March 12

CHICAGO, ILL. —  Bellator Fighting Championships today announced the venue location for Bellator 36 which will take place at the historic Shreveport Municipal Auditorium in Shreveport, LA on March 12, 2011.  The event will be broadcast live on MTV2.

The Season 4 event will feature the soon-to-be announced Bellator Lightweight Tournament quarterfinal pairings as well as a host of exciting Local Feature Fights.  The event will feature former WEC Champion Razor Rob McCullough, 2009 Submission of the Year winner, Toby Imada, Olympian Ferrid Kheder and many others.  Bellator 36 marks Bellator’s fifth appearance in The Bayou State.

“We’re thrilled to be returning to Louisianna with our world-class mixed martial arts events live on MTV2,” said Bellator Chairman and CEO Bjorn Rebney. “The historic Municipal Auditorium will provide a spectacular place to watch this live nationally televised MMA showcase.  I’m looking forward to March 12.”

— Following his shocking loss to Antonio Silva, Fedor Emelianenko has been medically suspended indefinitely by the New Jersey State Athletic Control Board. He will not be permitted to compete until he's cleared by a doctor after an upcoming CT scan of his head and face. However, he did not suffer a broken orbital bone as widely speculated. Former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski will also be sidelined for a mandatory 30 days following his KO loss to Sergei Kharitonov. [MMAJunkie.com]

— A featherweight bout between one-time planned title contender Josh Grispi and "TUF" alumnus George Roop has been booked for the TUF 13 Finale in Las Vegas on June 4. Grispi had a ten-fight winning streak snapped by Dustin Porier at UFC 125 on Jan 1, while Roop suffered a one-sided loss to Mark Hominick just days later at UFC Fight for the Troops II. [MMA Mania]

Bellator Confirms Pairings for Welterweight Tourney

CHICAGO, ILL.Bellator Fighting Championships today announced the promotion's Season 4 Welterweight Tournament Quarterfinal Pairings for Bellator 35, the premiere event at the Tachi Palace Casino & Resort in Lemoore, California on Saturday, March 5, 2011.

With all four of the highly anticipated Welterweight Tournament Quarterfinal fights on the schedule,Bellator 35 will serve as the launching point for talent-stacked welterweight tournament which will air live on MTV2.

"This Welterweight tournament is stacked.  Every fight should be hyper-competitive" said Bellator Chairman and CEO Bjorn Rebney. "Any one of these 8 fighters could win it, make $100,000 and earn the right to fight Askren for our world title."

The Daily Recap: Rampage Declines Title Shot, UFC 126 Medical Suspensions & More

— After Rashad Evans went down with injury, it was Quinton "Rampage" Jackson, not Jon Jones, who was first approached about facing Mauricio "Shogun" Rua on March 19. However, Jackson declined, stating that it would not be enough time for him to prepare for Rua nor get into proper fight shape. [MMAJunkie.com]

— The Nevada State Athletic Commission today released the list of medical suspensions stemming from UFC 126 this past weekend. The most notable suspensions were handed out to Forrest Griffin and Jake Ellenberger, who could be sidelined until August with a broken foot and a pair of broken hands respectively. [MMA Weekly]

Chandler Official for Bellator Lightweight Tourney Field

CHICAGO, ILL.Bellator Fighting Championships today confirmed the addition of undefeated Bellator veteran Michael Chandler to its upcoming Season 4 Lightweight Tournament, airing live on MTV2 starting March 5th.

With a pair of impressive wins under the Bellator banner in 2010, Chandler’s opponents have never made past the second round, as the Missouri native is a perfect 5-0 in his professional career with all of his victories coming by way of (T)KO or submission.

“Mike was very impressive at Bellator 31 and 32, finishing both  opponents in the first round.  He’s got extreme strength and power for a Lightweight and  I’m excited to see how far he can go in this tournament,” said Bellator Chairman and CEO Bjorn Rebney.

The Week in MMA: Jan 31-Feb 6

This week's top story was easily UFC 126, the organization's annual Super Bowl weekend show in Las Vegas, which featured a stacked card and delievered on the hype for the most part.

Victorious at the event were Anderson Silva, Forrest Griffin and Jon Jones, who dispatched of Vitor Belfort, Rich Franklin and Ryan Bader respectively.
