CHICAGO, Ill. (April 6, 2012) — Bellator Fighting Championships made its first ever trip to Winsor, Ontario and they brought with them a stacked card that included Ben Askren’s dominant victory over Douglas Lima as well as a Featherweight Tournament Semifinal victory for Marlon Sandro.
Additionally, Travis Marx and Hiroshi Nakamura became the first two to advance to the semifinal round of the Bellator Bantamweight Tournament Friday night at Bellator 64 from Caesars Windsor in Windsor, Ontario live on MTV2 and in HD on EPIX.
In the main event of the evening, the Bellator Welterweight Title was on the line as defending champion Ben Askren faced off against Season 5 Welterweight Tournament Winner Douglas Lima. Quickly becoming a staple of Askren fights, the five rounds were dominated by the two-time National wrestling champion. Frustrated, Lima attempted submissions off his back but failed to overcome the grinding style of the U.S. Olympian. With “Funky” holding steady in the dominant position throughout the duration of the fight, the outcome was clear as the champion won every round on the judges’ scorecards.
CHICAGO, Ill. (April 6, 2012) — With an already stellar main event featuring Bellator Lightweight Champion Michael Chandler taking on 32-win MMA veteran Akihiro Gono, Bellator 67 from Casino Rama on May 4 will feature a welterweight semifinal showdown between Ben “Killa B” Saunders and Bryan “The Beast” Baker, as well as a host of stacked feature fights sure to get the Canadian faithful on their feet.

After Chandler’s amazing fourth-round submission victory against then champion Eddie Alvarez at Bellator 58, the undefeated champion knows that he’s now the one with the target on his back.

DREAM welterweight champion Marius Zaromskis and King of the Cage veteran Waachiim Spiritwolf will reportedly fight for the second time at Bellator 68, which is scheduled for the Palladium Ballroom at Caesars in Atlantic City, New Jersey on May 11.
The news comes from MMA Junkie, citing sources close to the event. Bellator 68 will likely feature the semifinals of the promotion's season six welterweight tournament.
Zaromskis and Spiritwolf originally met under the Strikeforce banner in November 2010 with the fight being stopped and ruled a no-contest in just six seconds after Spiritwolf was unable to recover from an accidental poke in the eye.
Since then, Zaromskis has won three out of his last four fights, his lone loss coming at the hands of then-streaking welterweight prospect Jordan Mein while Spiritwolf has struggled as of late, dropping two out of his last three.
Bellator Fighting Championships didn't fair well either in the ratings department this past weekend. Still in a battle with "TUF: Live" for Friday night viewership, Bellator 63, which featured the season six welterweight quarterfinals, averaged 140,000 viewers on MTV2.
Are the two sides taking viewers away from each other or the eyes just not there for the time slots, on a Friday night at that?
Meanwhile, Bellator 63 attracted an average of 140,000 viewers on MTV2, a decrease of 35,000 observers from last week’s Bellator 62, which posted a season-high 175,000 viewers. However, Bellator 63 still handily beat the season low of 108,000 viewers, set by Bellator 61 two weeks ago.
Featuring the Season 6 welterweight tournament quarterfinals, Bellator 63 saw Karl Amoussou, Ben Saunders, David Rickels and Bryan Baker advance to the semifinal round, which will be contested May 4 at Bellator 67 when Saunders faces Baker and Amoussou meets Rickels.

UFC veteran Brian Foster has been forced out of Bellator's upcoming season-six welterweight tournament due to additional screening needed in order to gain medical clearance to fight. He will be replaced by Blackhouse member and 170 lb prospect Jordan Smith. Foster missed nearly a year of action after suffering a brain hemorrhage in the winter of 2010. No word on whether or not that contributed to his removal from the tournament. [Bellator.com]
