Vinicius Queiroz’s Management Files Complaint Following Bellator 80 Loss

MMA Junkie is reporting that Vinicius Queiroz's manager has filed a complaint with the Florida State Boxing Commission on behalf of his client following his loss to Alexander Volkov at Bellator 80.

According to the report, Queiroz’s management felt that referee James Warring played a role in the outcome of the fight. "[Referee James] Warring could have contributed to [and] altered the result of the fight after he ordered the fighters to rise up with [after] only 15 seconds [on the ground] … in a moment that was favorable for Vincius. MMA means also fighting on the ground. Getting a takedown and dominating the ground also adds points to the fight."

Issues began in the first round when Queiroz’s scored a takedown following a flurry from Volkov. While working from the closed guard, Queiroz tried to create separation by grinding his head into the chin/chest of Volkov. Moments later the fight was stood up and Warring warned Queiroz not to use his head in that manner.

The Daily Recap is a collection of news and notes from around the web that will be posted at the end of each day. Bout signings, injury news and much more can all be found here.

Two-time UFC middleweight title challenger Chael Sonnen made a bombshell announcement on tonight's episode of "UFC Tonight" on FUEL TV, revealing that he'll be making an expected move up to the light heavyweight division and will face former champ Forrest Griffin at the UFC's year-end show on December 29.

In talking about the matchup, Sonnen praised Griffin for his achievements inside the cage and stated that he felt that he was underlooked. He also went on about current champion Jon Jones and the fact that he would be able to steal his title like "halloween candy". (Update - Video of Sonnen's announcement is after the jump.)

Sonnen and Griffin met once before at IFC's talent-stacked light heavyweight tournament at their "Global Domination" event in September 2003. Griffin submitted Sonnen with a triangle choke in the quarterfinals of an eight-man tournament that night. Not much of a surprise there.

The bout will be Sonnen's first at 205 lbs since he fell to Renato "Babalu" Sobral all the way back at UFC 55 almost seven years ago. Griffin is coming off of a unanimous decision over Tito Ortiz last month in a rubber match between the two.

— The UFC this afternoon announced that rising welterweight contender and seasoned veteran Brian Ebersole will replace an injured Claude Patrick against James Head in a welterweight affair at UFC 149 later this month in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Ebersole enters the fight on less than three weeks notice just a couple of weeks after winning a unanimous decision over T.J. Waldburger at UFC on FX 4 on June 22. [UFC.com]

— Michael Bisping made an appearance on Tuesday's edition of UFC Tonight to discuss his recovery from recent knee surgery and ended up calling out a couple of potential foes along the way, including Alan Belcher. "Alan Belcher’s somebody that’s been calling me out for seems like forever now," Bisping said on the show. "To be quite frank I’m sick of it. So, Alan Belcher if your balls are big enough, call Joe Silva and let’s do it." [MMA Weekly]

CHICAGO, Ill. (April 10, 2012) — When Bellator Fighting Championships makes its first trip of the season to Atlantic City, it brings with it a loaded fight card including a Bantamweight Title Fight headlined by Bellator Bantamweight World Champion Zach Makovsky and challenger Eduardo “Dudu” Dantas, as well as a Season 6 Featherweight Tournament semifinal bout and the last two quarterfinal fights in the Season 6 Bantamweight Tournament. Also, a stacked preliminary card is official and is loaded with the best talent from the East Coast and Midwest.

The night will feature the return of former Bellator Welterweight Champion Lyman Good as he takes on the always dangerous LeVon Maynard in a welterweight matchup. Good returns for the first time since dropping a decision to Season 6 Bellator Tournament semifinalist Rick Hawn and is looking to get back to the form that saw him win 10 consecutive fights to start his career. Maynard, a three-time Bellator veteran, is looking to score the biggest win of his career when he meets “Cyborg” on April 13.

The hits keep coming as Philadelphia’s Will Martinez takes on Andy Main in a featherweight contest. Main, a New Jersey hometown favorite, is coming off a huge win over Bellator veteran Bobby Reardanz, while Martinez will be looking to extend his winning streak to three.
