Former IFL welterweight champion Jay Hieron could reportedly take on fellow UFC veteran Drew Fickett at Affliction’s “Day of Reckoning” show on October 11th in Las Vegas.

Fickett’s manager, Alexander Oxendine has informed Sherdog.com that his client has verbally accepted the bout, although talks are still ongoing and nothing is set in stone.

Hieron has not competed since successfully defending his IFL belt against former U.S. Marine Mark Miller in April. He became the IFL’s first-ever welterweight champion after defeating Donnie Liles and Delson Heleno in consecutive fights. The Long Island native is currently keeping in shape by training at Xtreme Couture.

Although he has been fairly active this year, especially in recent months, Fickett has been embroiled lately in a feud with MFC President Mark Pavelich after breaching a contract he had with the organization by accepting a last-minute fight in a Strikeforce show in June. Fickett was upset by Richard Villa in his Rage in the Cage return last month but bounced back to defeat Joe Manzello just six days later.

Report: Horodecki-Lauzon Likely at Affliction II

A previously rumored lightweight battle between former IFL lightweight standout Chris Horodecki and UFC veteran Dan Lauzon will most likely take place at Affliction’s “Day of Reckoning” show on October 11th in Las Vegas.

Both fighters have reportedly agreed to the fight according to Sherdog.com. Bout agreements have yet to be signed. Lauzon’s camp is said to be waiting to see paperwork for the bout before making signing a multi-fight deal with Affliction.

Horodecki became a free agent upon asking for his release from the almost-defunct International Fight League earlier this month. He was previously rumored to have been taking on Takanori Gomi at Sengoku IV next weekend but talks eventually broke down. Horodecki last won a unanimous decision over Nate Lamotte in April.

Since losing consecutive Spencer Fisher and Deividas Taurosevicius, Lauzon has racked up six straight wins fighting primarily in the Boston area. He most recently scored a second-round TKO of Brendan Hoxie at a World Championship Fighting event in June.

The California State Athletic Commission announced today that both EliteXC heavyweight champion Antonio Silva and UFC veteran Edwin Dewees have tested positive for steroids following the conclusion of their respective bouts last month.

Silva tested positive for the banned steroid Boldenone while Dewees was said to have Nandrolone in his system. Both fighters have been suspended for one year and fined $2,500. They will have the opportunity to file an appeal with the commission before the end of the month.

Silva was victorious at EliteXC’s “Unfinished Business” show on July 26th, stopping former UFC heavyweight title challenger Justin Eilers via second-round TKO. It’s unknown if he will be stripped of his championship belt. Dewees fell to Antonio Rogerio Nogueira at Affliction’s July 19th event, succumbing to strikes in the first round.

Former IFL lightweight standout Chris Horodecki is reportedly in talks to take on UFC veteran Dan Lauzon at Affliction’s “Day of Reckoning” show on October 11th in Las Vegas.

The word comes from MMANews.com, which has learned from a source within Affliction that the organization is currently in talks to pair the two up at the event. At the least, Lauzon’s name has definitely been thrown around as a strong possibility to face Horodecki.

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Vitor Belfort has been forced to pull out of his scheduled middleweight bout against Matt Lindland at Affliction’s “Day of Reckoning” show on October 11th due to a lingering hand injury that will leave him unable to compete.

Affliction Vice President Tom Atencio informed MMA Weekly of Belfort’s withdraw late last night and MMA on Tap has since confirmed the change with Belfort’s camp. The Brazilian suffered a broken hand in the first round of his knockout win over Terry Martin on July 19th. Belfort was originally optimistic about being able to compete this fall, but the opinions of a handful of doctors have apparently now changed his mind.

“Vitor is out, I spoke with him I think yesterday and he told me,” Atencio said. “Actually, it was on Tuesday we had a conversation for about an hour or so, and yeah, I guess he broke his hand in two places is what he told me and he had been having 2, 3 and 4 opinions on it. He finally got the opinion that he wanted I guess and they told him to step out for a while.”

While a replacement opponent for Lindland has not yet been found, rumors are now circulating that EliteXC welterweight champion Jake Shields would consider moving up in weight to face the former Olympic wrestler should EliteXC officials permit him to take the fight. However neither side has been very open about the possibility or the potential ongoing negotiations.

Update 3:03 PM ET: Rothwell has told CagePotato.com that he will indeed be fighting Pedro Rizzo at Affliction’s “Day of Reckoning” event on October 11th event and not Siliga, stating that previous reports published earlier today were completely false and that the K-1 kickboxer was never considered as a possible opponent.

Miletich Fighting Systems product Ben Rothwell is reportedly in talks that would have him take on K-1 veteran Siala “Mighty Mo” Siliga at Affliction’s “Day of Reckoning” event on October 11th in Las Vegas.

The news comes from our friends at MMA Junkie, who have learned of the potential bout through sources close to the fight itself. The guaranteed heavyweight slugfest would likely take place as part of the show’s televised pay-per-view main card.

Rothwell was previously rumored to be taking on three-time UFC heavyweight title challenger Pedro Rizzo at the event. At Affliction’s debut show last month, Rothwell suffered a third-round knockout loss to former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski, snapping a thirteen-fight winning streak that stretched back to 2005.

Affliction Confirms Negotiations With Ortiz

One week after former UFC light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz prematurely told the media that he had signed with Affliction Entertainment, organizational heads Tom Atencio and Michael Cohen have both confirmed that they are actively in negotiations with the “Huntington Beach Bad Boy”.

Ortiz told Sports Illustrated last week that he was set to sign a “ground-breaking” contract with the popular California clothing company turned MMA promotion and that the deal would have him become part of the company’s management team. However at a press conference announcing their October 11th “Day of Reckoning” event the next day, Atencio stated that he and his team had not even been in contact with Ortiz.

Even though the two sides are now officially talking, the chances of Ortiz competing at the show in Las Vegas this fall remain slim.

Affliction Entertainment held a press conference earlier this afternoon at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas to confirm a quartet of fights and reveal broadcast details for the promotion’s scheduled “Day of Reckoning” event, which will take place on October 11th at the Thomas & Mack Center on the campus of UNLV.

Among the bouts officially announced today by Affliction Vice President Tom Atencio included two previously reported bouts: a rematch between IFL light heavyweight champion Vladimir Matyushenko and longtime divisional contender Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and a middleweight contest between former UFC standouts Vitor Belfort and Matt Lindland.
