The Daily Recap is a collection of news and notes from around the web that will be posted at the end of each day. Bout signings, injury news and much more can all be found here.

Two-time UFC middleweight title challenger Chael Sonnen made a bombshell announcement on tonight's episode of "UFC Tonight" on FUEL TV, revealing that he'll be making an expected move up to the light heavyweight division and will face former champ Forrest Griffin at the UFC's year-end show on December 29.

In talking about the matchup, Sonnen praised Griffin for his achievements inside the cage and stated that he felt that he was underlooked. He also went on about current champion Jon Jones and the fact that he would be able to steal his title like "halloween candy". (Update - Video of Sonnen's announcement is after the jump.)

Sonnen and Griffin met once before at IFC's talent-stacked light heavyweight tournament at their "Global Domination" event in September 2003. Griffin submitted Sonnen with a triangle choke in the quarterfinals of an eight-man tournament that night. Not much of a surprise there.

The bout will be Sonnen's first at 205 lbs since he fell to Renato "Babalu" Sobral all the way back at UFC 55 almost seven years ago. Griffin is coming off of a unanimous decision over Tito Ortiz last month in a rubber match between the two.

Video: Jason High vs. Nate Moore from Strikeforce “Rockhold vs. Kennedy” on Saturday Night

Jason High was angry after his 29-second submission win over Nate Moore was nixed from last Saturday's Strikeforce broadcast on Showtime.

He had every right to be, especially since he's probably the most worthy choice for Nate Marquardt's first welterweight title defense. Showtime was kind enough to put High's win up for everyone to see. A title shot would be even nicer.

A welterweight bout between struggling former contenders Thiago Alves and Yoshihiro Akiyama has reportedly been targeted for UFC 149, which is scheduled for July 21 at the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

The news comes from MMAFighting.com. UFC 149 is slated to be headlined by Jose Aldo defending his UFC featherweight title against an opponent yet to be named.

Alves is coming off of a heartbreaking loss to Martin Kampmann at UFC on FX 2 last month, submitting to a gullotine choke in the final moments of their bout after appearing to be on his way to a victory.

After winning a close split decision over Alan Belcher in his UFC debut nearly three years ago at UFC 100, Akiyama has gone on to drop four straight bouts. He suffered consecutive losses to Chris Leben, Michael Bisping and Vitor Belfort before dropping down to the welterweight division and falling to Jake Shields in his last appearance at UFC 144 in February.

CHICAGO, Ill. (April 6, 2012) — Bellator Fighting Championships made its first ever trip to Winsor, Ontario and they brought with them a stacked card that included Ben Askren’s dominant victory over Douglas Lima as well as a Featherweight Tournament Semifinal victory for Marlon Sandro.

Additionally, Travis Marx and Hiroshi Nakamura became the first two to advance to the semifinal round of the Bellator Bantamweight Tournament Friday night at Bellator 64 from Caesars Windsor in Windsor, Ontario live on MTV2 and in HD on EPIX.

In the main event of the evening, the Bellator Welterweight Title was on the line as defending champion Ben Askren faced off against Season 5 Welterweight Tournament Winner Douglas Lima. Quickly becoming a staple of Askren fights, the five rounds were dominated by the two-time National wrestling champion. Frustrated, Lima attempted submissions off his back but failed to overcome the grinding style of the U.S. Olympian. With “Funky” holding steady in the dominant position throughout the duration of the fight, the outcome was clear as the champion won every round on the judges’ scorecards.
