World Extreme Cagefighting has released the complete fight card for it’s upcoming WEC 38 event on January 25 at the San Diego Sports Arena in California where WEC lightweight champion Jamie Varner will defend his title against rising contender Donald Cerrone.
The show’s co-main event will feature a rematch between former champions as Urijah Faber will attempt to bounce back from his recent loss to Mike Thomas Brown against one-time UFC lightweight title holder Jens Pulver. Faber won an unanimous decision over Pulver in a 2008 fight-of-the-year candidate back on June 1.

The Florida State Boxing Commission has released the official list of medical suspensions stemming from this week’s WEC 36: “Faber vs. Brown” event, which took place at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida on November 5.
American Top Team product Mike Brown upset top-ranked featherweight Urijah Faber in the show’s main event to claim the WEC featherweight title. Chael Sonnen was also victorious in his rematch against Paulo Filho and Leonard Garcia scored a first-round stoppage of Jens Pulver in televised bouts as well.
Brown has been suspended indefinitely, receiving the longest layoff by the commission after sustaining a rib injury during his win over Faber. David Avellan, who suffered a brutal 18 second knockout loss to Aaron Simpson, has been medically suspended for two months.
The remaining fighters have all been given 30-day medical suspensions: Urijah Faber, Jens Pulver, Nissen Osterneck, Jonathan Brookins, and Rafael Dias.
Here’s some video from the post-fight press conference for WEC 36. Former WEC featherweight champion Urijah Faber discusses his first-round TKO loss to Mike Brown at the event in the above video. After the jump are comments from Leonard Garcia and Chael Sonnen.

WEC middleweight title holder Paulo Filho came in an astounding seven pounds over the 185 lb. limit at the weigh-ins for WEC 36 on Tuesday afternoon, putting his championship rematch against Team Quest product Chael Sonnen in jeopardy.
After the two-hour allotted time limit, Filho was only able to cut down to 188 lbs, making his showdown against Sonnen a non-title affair. Sonnen will be awarded 25% of Filho’s purse.
In addition, featherweight title challenger Mike Brown came in a half pound over the featherweight limit and jiu-jitsu wizard Rani Yahya weighed-in one pound over the bantamweight requirements for his fight against Yoshiro Maeda. Brown was quickly able to shed the extra baggage while Maeda has agreed to face Yahya without forcing him to cut weight again.
Complete weigh-in results are after the jump.
In the above video, Urijah Faber explains why he feels his upcoming WEC featherweight title defense against the experienced but unknown Mike Thomas Brown this Wednesday night could be the toughest test of his career to date.
Here’s Mike Thomas Brown training in preparation for his upcoming WEC featherweight title bout against Urijah Faber with American Top Team. Brown will take on Faber at WEC 36 on Sept. 10 in Hollywood, Florida. The event will air starting at 9 PM ET on Versus. The first part of the segment is above, the second is after the jump.

If Urijah Faber and Leonard Garcia are victorious in their respective fights at World Extreme Cagefighting’s upcoming September 10 event in Hollywood, Florida, the two could potentially meet in a featherweight title showdown in Mexico.
Garcia revealed on today’s edition of TAGG Radio that the WEC has already scheduled a press conference featuring himself and Faber for the third week of September in Mexico City, where the WEC may be planning to hold a show in the near future.
“They’re flying me out six days after the (Pulver) fight to Mexico City to do a press conference and to make a huge announcement,” Garcia said on the radio show. “As I understand it, both Urijah and I are going…I think both of us just need to hold up our ends of the bargain on Sept. 10.”
