Here are the weigh-in results for tomorrow night’s UFC Fight Night…
Former WEC Lightweight Champion Gabe “Godzilla” Ruediger will be making his UFC debut at UFC 63 on September 23rd against Melvin Guillard.
“I just signed a contract with the UFC, Melvin Guillard, September 23rd. That’s my main priority, and what I’m most excited about.
This is the first fight that I’m going to have that I’m going to be able to train full-time. I told my boss that I’m taking a leave of absence. I’m going to be a full-time fighter, so I’m excited about that.
As soon as I found out that Guillard was a potential opponent I started looking him up. I’m familiar. I’m also a fan, so I especially try to keep up on the lightweight because you never know when a potential fight with one could be. He’s very athletic. He hits hard. He has got decent wrestling, but he’s not really a technician. That’s where I think he’s going to make mistakes. I’ll capitalize, and I’m going to finish him. I know I’m going to finish him.”
The Ultimate Fighting Championship has announced that they have hired Marshall Zelaznik to head the newly created position of President of their UK Division.
Marshall Zelaznik’s job will be “exporting and managing the UFC brand overseas to the United Kingdom and other parts of English and non-English speaking Europe.”
Middleweight contenders David “The Crow” Loiseau and Mike “Quick” Swick will face off at UFC 63. This will be Loiseau’s first fight back since suffering a decision loss to the UFC Middleweight Champion Rich Franklin. Mike Swick is currently on a four fight winning streak with his latest victory coming by submission over Joe Riggs.
UFC President Dana White has told the Calgary Sun that the much anticipated matchup between Chuck Liddell and Wanderlei Silva may now not even happen.
“I don’t even know if Silva’s going to happen,” said Dana White, president of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. He cited problems in dealing with the Japan-based Pride Fighting Championships that is home to Silva.
White also added that UFC 65 may feature the winner of Liddell-Babalu against the winner or Ortiz-Shamrock if things don’t work out.
In a recent interview with MMA Weekly, Royce Gracie has stated that he wants a rematch with Matt Hughes, who defeated him at UFC 60, and that talks with the UFC are already underway in terms of making the fight happen.
MMAWeekly: Do you want a rematch with Matt Hughes?
Royce Gracie: Of course
MMAWeekly: Are you in negotiations with the UFC to make this fight happen?
Royce Gracie: We are talking to them. We shall see.
MMAWeekly: Touching on Hughes, did you learn anything from the fight? Did he surprise you?
Royce Gracie: No, we knew what he was planning to do. We worked out his gameplan before the fight, and he did exactly what we expected. I over-trained for the fight. That was all. I started training too much, too hard, for too long. He did exactly what we expected.
