American Top Team fighter Thiago Alves has been forced to withdraw from his UFC 62 fight against Josh Neer. Alves is suffering from an illness which will not allow him to fight.
The UFC first approached tough welterweight Jake Sheilds but he didn’t feel he’d have enough time to cut weight so instead the UFC opted to go with the very candid Nick Diaz.
The UFC has announced three fights that will take place on the UFC 62 undercard.
Wilson Gouveia will make his return to the octagon after suffering a decision loss to Keith Jardine. Gouveia will go up against Wes Combs who recently made his UFC debut and lost to Mike Nickels.
Next we will see a welterweight battle between Thiago Alves and Josh Neer. Thiago Alves is coming off of a TKO loss to John Fight and Josh Neer is coming off of a decision loss to the hands of Josh Burkman.
Finally we will see UFC newcomers Cory Walmsley and David Heath will battle it out in the octagon. David Heath is coming into this fight with an undefeated record of 5-0. Cory Walmsley is coming in with a record of 7-1.
Today the UFC officially announced four more bouts that are set to take place on the June 28th Ultimate Fight Night card. The former UFC middleweight champion Dave Menne will go up against Josh Koscheck in a welterweight battle, Branden Lee Hinkle will move down to 205 lbs to face Jason Lambert, Jon Fitch will take on Thiago Alves and ‘The Ultimate Fighter II’ finalist Luke Cummo will go up against the very tough Jonathan Goulet.
