Roger Gracie has reportedly been forced to withdraw from his scheduled bout against journeyman Travis Wiuff at World Victory Road’s upcoming “Sengoku V” on September 28 after sustaining a rib injury during a recent training session according to Sherdog.com.

According to the report, Gracie took a hard kick to the ribs during sparring last week and was then examined by a doctor who found that Gracie had suffered a tear to one of the muscles between his ribs. He is expected to be out of action for at least four weeks, pending a follow-up examination.

Gracie was victorious in his professional mixed martial arts debut in December 2006, submitting Ron Waterman with an armbar at a BodogFight: USA vs. Russia. He most recently submitted Yuki Kondo with a first-round rear naked choke at Sengoku II on May 18.

World Victory Road is expected to announce Gracie’s withdrawal, along with a replacement opponent at some point this week.
