Report: Buentello vs. Duffee at UFC 107

Former UFC heavyweight title challenger Paul Buentello will reportedly face rising prospect Todd Duffee in his return to the organization at UFC 107, which is slated to take place on December 12 at the FedExForum in Memphis, Tennessee.

According to MMA Junkie, both fighters have verbally agreed to the fight and the paperwork is nearly finalized. The matchup could take place on the televised pay-per-view portion of the event.

Affliction Announces “Trilogy” Event for August

Affliction Entertainment today officially announced their third-ever event, “Trilogy”, which will take place on Saturday, August 1 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. As expected, the show will be headlined by a much-anticipated heavyweight clash between Fedor Emelianenko and Josh Barnett.

The poster for the event can be seen at Affliction’s official website.

While no other fights on the card have been confirmed, some heavily rumored matchups include former UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia facing Paul Buentello, Jay Hieron going up against Paul Daley and a previously scheduled bout between Chris Horodecki and Dan Lauzon.

Affliction’s Day of Reckoning Shaping Up

Tickets go on sale tomorrow for Affliction Entertainment’s second PPV effort, Day of Reckoning.  The fight card will feature Fedor Emelianenko defending his WAMMA Heavyweight Championship against former UFC Heavyweight Champion, Andre “The Pitbull” Arlovski.  The event is set to take place on January 24, 2009 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.

Cooper-Speight Finalizes Affliction II Card

A welterweight bout between IFL veteran Brett Cooper and undefeated prospect Patrick Speight will reportedly finalize Affliction’s “Day of Reckoning” card, which will take place on October 11th at the Thomas & Mack Center on the campus of UNLV according to a report by MMA News.

Affliction VP Tom Atencio was said to have confirmed Cooper vs. Speight as the final bout to be signed for the event yesterday. Both fighters were originally scheduled to be part of Affliction’s “Banned” show on July 19 but were removed from the card due to unknown reasons.

Surprises and Switches at Affliction Presser

Affliction Entertainment held a press conference earlier this afternoon at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas to confirm a quartet of fights and reveal broadcast details for the promotion’s scheduled “Day of Reckoning” event, which will take place on October 11th at the Thomas & Mack Center on the campus of UNLV.

Among the bouts officially announced today by Affliction Vice President Tom Atencio included two previously reported bouts: a rematch between IFL light heavyweight champion Vladimir Matyushenko and longtime divisional contender Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and a middleweight contest between former UFC standouts Vitor Belfort and Matt Lindland.

Goodridge Tapped to Face Buentello

Longtime veteran and mixed martial arts pioneer Gary “Big Daddy” Goodridge has been cleared by the California State Athletic Comission as a replacement opponent for former UFC heavyweight title challenger Paul Buentello at tomorrow night’s Affliction: Banned show in Anaheim.

Greg Savage of Sherdog.com was able to confirm Goodridge’s participation with CSAC Executive Officer Armando Garcia. The part-time K-1 kickboxer was in-shape and in California for an event in San Diego that ended up being cancelled. His bout against Buentello is not yet official however. Both fighters are required to weigh-in at 2 PM ET tomorrow.

Goodridge is currently riding a two-fight losing streak, most recently dropping a lackluster unanimous decision to Terroll Dees at an Iroquois MMA Championships event in June. His last victory was a TKO win over Jan Nortje at K-1 Hero’s 8 in March of last year.

Buentello’s original foe, Aleksander Emelianenko, was forced off the card earlier this evening after failing to receive medical clearance and meet licensing requirements. It’s also been confirmed that although Justin Levens and Ray Lizama are indeed slated to compete at a catch-weight of 187 lbs, Levens failed to make weight (he came in at 189 lbs) and will be docked part of his purse.

Buentello-Emelianenko Set for Affliction Debut

Former UFC heavyweight title challenger Paul Buentello will return to action for the first time in over eight months when he takes on Aleksander Emelianenko, the younger brother of top heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko, at Affliction’s “Banned” show on July 19th at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.

The popular California-based clothing company officially announced the previously rumored bout earlier today at a press conference earlier today in Los Angeles.

Buentello has not fought since losing to Dutch kickboxer Alistair Overeem in a failed November bid for Strikeforce’s vacant heavyweight title. It was the Texas native’s first loss in two years and only his second in his last dozen fights.

Emelianenko most recently stopped Brazilian grappler Silvao Santos with strikes to earn his first win of 2008 at the latest edition of the M-1 Challenge last month. The PRIDE and BodogFight veteran is currently riding a five-fight winning streak.

Also announced at today’s press conference was Affliction’s signing of PRIDE veteran Antonio Rogerio Nogueira according to Sherdog.com. Nogueira has split his last four bouts, most recently earning a second-round TKO of Todd Gouwenberg at Hardcore Championship Fighting’s “Destiny” event in February. He is expected to make his promotional debut at the company’s next planned event in October.
