The Illinois State Athletic Commission has released the official list of medical suspensions stemming from last month’s UFC 90: “Silva vs. Cote” event, which took place at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois on October 25.
The event saw Anderson Silva retain his UFC middleweight title over Patrick Cote via third-round TKO after Cote tore his ACL in the late stages of their championship fight. Former UFC lightweight champion Sean Sherk and rising welterweight contender Thiago Alves were also victorious on the card.
Cote has been medically suspended for 45 days and will be unable to participate in contact training sessions for 30 days due to his knee injury. However the Quebec City native is expected to be out of action for at least six months following surgery to repair the injury.
Heavyweight contender Fabricio Werdum, who was knocked out by newcomer Junior dos Santos on the main card, has been sidelined for two months while Drew McFedries, who was submitted by Thales Leites, has been given a mandatory one-month vacation.

Ticket sales for UFC 90 may have gone a little better than expected so far. Similar to the UFC’s inaugural venture up to Canada earlier this year, the show is nearly sold-out just one day after tickets went on-sale to the general public.
Only 3,000 or so seats remained as of yesterday afternoon according to UFC President Dana White, who met with media and fans at the Woodfield Mall in Chicago yesterday for a pre-fight press conference concerning the event (Video here). With a gate over $2 million so far, UFC 90 is expected to smash previous attendance records for the Allstate Arena, which were set by WWE at Wrestlemania 22 in April 2006.
‘‘This is a bold statement in a town with the White Sox and Cubs and the Bears, but I guarantee you this will be the most exciting live sporting event you have ever seen,’’ White said yesterday. ‘‘I can’t explain it to you. You have to experience it. The closest thing that comes to it is when Mike Tyson was in his heyday. There was so much excitement about someone getting knocked out.’’

In the above video, Michael David Smith of AOL Fanhouse interviews Patrick Cote about his upcoming middleweight title showdown against Anderson Silva at UFC 90 on October 25th in the suburbs of Chicago. It’s interesting to note that among other things, Cote wants the fight against Silva because he wants to earn respect by facing who he believes is the world’s top pound-for-pound fighter.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship will be travel to “The Windy City” for the first time in history during a scheduled visit to Chicago for UFC 90: Silva vs. Cote on October 25th at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois.
The organization officially announced the event earlier today. While no other bouts were confirmed, it’s expected that a previously rumored welterweight bout between title contenders Thiago Alves and Diego Sanchez will take place at the event as well. Local product Rory Markham will likely participate while Stephan Bonnar will not.
Silva picked up his seventh straight UFC win and remains undefeated inside the promotion following a devastating first-round knockout of James Irvin on July 19th. Meanwhile Cote is currently riding a five-fight winning streak. His latest win was a close split decision over grappling ace Ricardo Almeida at UFC 86 earlier this month.
Tickets for the show will go on sale to UFC Fight Club members on August 15th at 11 AM ET. UFC Newsletter subscribers will be able to buy tickets on August 17th and the remainder of tickets will go on sale to the general public the following day. Both previously mentioned sales start at 11 AM ET.
