UFC on FOX 6 Notebook: Pettis will wait for title shot, Dana White on Rampage & more

After three straight wins over a trio of the UFC's toughest and most durable lightweights, including a first-round TKO of Donald Cerrone at UFC on FOX 6 last night, former WEC champion Anthony Pettis is content to wait for a shot at the UFC lightweight belt if a crack at it is set in stone for him.

"If it's a guaranteed title shot, I'm waiting," Pettis said at the event's post-fight press conference. "That's what my goals are. It's one of my goals this year. If it's next, I'm going to wait, get better and get what's mine."

Pettis has been guaranteed a UFC title shot once before. As the last reigning WEC lightweight champion, Pettis was slated to meet the winner of a January 2011 title fight between then champion Frankie Edgar and rival Gray Maynard.

Guida squeaks by Hioki. Bader quickly subs Matyushenko in UFC on FOX 6 prelims

Clay Guida. Photo by Tracy Lee/CombatLifestyle.com.

Despite displaying a crafty ground game and an effective arsenal of punches and kicks, Hatsu Hioki came out on the losing end of a split decision to Clay Guida in the featured bout during the UFC on FOX 6 prelims on Saturday night.

The crowd inside of Chicago's United Center was clearly behind their native son in Guida, but "The Carpenter" drew scattered boos over the course of three rounds due to a stagnant offense, which saw Guida controlling Hioki on the ground, but not offering much in terms of punishment.

Hioki took the the first round on two of the judge's scorecards by making Guida miss on the feet, while scoring with a barrage of punches, kicks and knees. The second stanza saw Guida turn the tide with some hard leg kicks and a huge slam that put Hioki on his back for the majority of the round. The Japanese veteran still managed to keep things close however courtesy of a couple of submission attempts and a head kick that landed flush as the round closed.

UFC on FOX 6 Predictions

Demetrious Johnson. Photo by Amy Walton Photography.

In what is now becoming a yearly tradition, the UFC returns to Chicago in January for UFC on FOX 6, which takes place Saturday night at the United Center.

The UFC's latest network television special is headlined by another title fight. This time the flyweights take the stage as Demetrious Johnson defends his belt for the first time against fellow speedster and top contender John Dodson. Quinton "Rampage" Jackson will also fight for what could be the last time in the UFC, taking on rising light heavyweight Glover Teixeira.

My predictions are after the jump.

Ben Askren bloodies and batters Karl Amoussou to retain title, King Mo scores win in Bellator debut

Ben Askren is evolving.

On a night that many expected Askren's smothering top position and submissions to do Karl Amoussou in, it was Askren's new ground-and-pound that put away the Frenchman in his latest Bellator welterweight title defense in the main event of Bellator 86 on Thursday night at the Winstar World Casino in Thackerville, Oklahoma.

Prior to the bout, Askren predicted a finish and he delivered. It was his second stoppage under the Bellator banner and his first since he submitted Ryan Thomas in his promotional debut back in April 2010.

Today the Nevada State Athletic Commission voted unanimously to reinstate Alistair Overeem’s license. The approval opens the door for Overeem’s scheduled bout with Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva at UFC 156.

According to MMA Fighting, Overeem provided the NSAC with five self-administered tests between June and December that were all clean. Along with those, he faced tests on November 16 and December 21, both of which he passed.

Nate Marquardt defends his Strikeforce welterweight title January 12 against Tarec Saffiedine at Strikeforce’s final event. If victorious, Marquardt told Ariel Helwani he’s open to a unification bout with Georges St. Pierre. Marquardt and St. Pierre have been training together since Marquardt’s first UFC stint. The Daily Recap: Price Demands, Hendricks Staying Put & More

Georges St. Pierre. Photo property of UFC/Zuffa LLC.

Last week on MMA Fighting’s “The MMA Beat”, Mike Straka stated that he's heard through sources that Georges St. Pierre is requesting $50 million to fight Anderson Silva. Straka said, “I was told by somebody very close to Georges that Georges today makes close to $8 million a fight. So to fight Anderson Silva he’s going to ask for $50 million.”

St. Pierre, who is currently in Paris, France, joined 98.5 FM Sports and shot down the report saying it was not true.

Johny Hendricks recently told MMA Junkie Radio that he has no intentions of risking his status as the number one contender for the UFC welterweight title. Hendricks said, “I’m not going to fight unless it’s for a belt. Nothing else matters but the belt.”

It’ll be interesting to see how the UFC handles the current welterweight title picture. Will it be the lesser known yet more deserving Hendricks or the outspoken and brash Nick Diaz?
