MARKHAM, ONTARIO, CANADA – Four of the most popular and accomplished champions in mixed martial arts, Dan Henderson, Cung Le, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and Matt Serra, have partnered with Round 5, the leading producer of MMA collectibles, to create figurines that will be included in an expanded Series 4, it was announced today by Barron Lau, Round 5 CEO and co-founder and Damon Lau, president and co-founder. The series, scheduled to be available at retail in July in time for UFC 100, will include the four plus fellow superstars Fedor Emelianenko and Gina Carano.
Round 5 also confirmed today that Series 3, which features Andrei “The Pit Bull” Arlovski, “Big John” McCarthy, Frank Mir and Antonio Rodrigo “Minotauro” Nogueira, will be in stores across North America and at online outlets including Round5MMA.com in late May, about a month behind its original schedule.
“With six figurines, Series 4 will be our largest issuance to date,” said Damon Lau. “Adding four more of the biggest names in the sport – with wide fan bases – to what began as an already stacked set is huge for Round 5 and a great opportunity for fans to quickly add to their collections.”
From the star-studded light heavyweight tournament at the International Fighting Championship’s “Global Domination” event in September 2003, here’s PRIDE Fighting Championships standout Mauricio “Shogun” Rua taking on former UFC light heavyweight title challenger Renato “Babalu” Sobral. The first part of the fight is above and the second is after the jump.
Much is being made about the fact that the light heavyweight clash between former UFC light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell and PRIDE Fighting Championships standout Mauricio “Shogun” Rua is essentially a “do-or-die” fight for both involved.
Liddell can’t afford to lose for the fourth time in five fights if he wants to continue fighting at the level he wants to and another loss for “Shogun” inside the UFC would continue to fuel rumors regarding his downfall since the demise of PRIDE.
Thus, this weekend’s co-main event for UFC 97 is being anticipated by many. Who do you think will win? Will Liddell be able to revive his storied career after Saturday night or will Rua continue his rise back to prominence with a win against a fellow former light heavyweight king?
In the above video released by the UFC yesterday, the two co-featured bouts on April 18th’s UFC 97 card are profiled: UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva defended his title against fellow Brazilian grappler Thales Leites and Chuck Liddell and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua colliding in a bout pitting two of MMA’s most devastating strikers against each other in a matchup years in the making.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship announced yesterday a pair of fights that will headlined the organization’s upcoming return to Canada on April 18. Anderson Silva will defend his UFC middleweight title against fellow Brazil native Thales Leites and former UFC light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell will take on former PRIDE star Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.
Silva comes into the fight never having lost in the UFC. Since taking the middleweight title from Rich Franklin over two years ago, “The Spider” has won six consecutive fights, including a successful rematch against Franklin, title defenses over Nate Marquardt and Dan Henderson, and a quick win at light heavyweight against James Irvin.
