The former cast member of the third season of “The Ultimate Fighter” reality show recently bounced back from a loss to one-time training partner Rich Franklin and defeated IFL veteran Reese Andy via second-round TKO on the undercard of December’s UFC 92.

Evans, Mir Steal Belts at UFC 92

Rashad Evans. Photo property of the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

Rashad Evans scored a third-round stoppage of fellow “Ultimate Fighter” winner Forrest Griffin to claim the UFC light heavyweight title while Frank Mir put on the best performance of his career in defeating Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira to recapture a piece of the UFC heavyweight belt that he once owned at UFC 92.

Evans came into his showdown with Griffin as an extremely slight underdog and the first two rounds of the bout were just as close. Both fighters connected with a mix of punches and kicks with great frequency, but Griffin likely escaped the first ten minutes with an edge on the judge’s scorecards.

A combination of a slip and a grazing right hand from Evans caused Griffin to fall to the canvas at the start of the third round. Evans, a former collegiate wrestler at Michigan State University, pounced on Griffin and landed some punches until the champion was able to tighten things up on the ground.

Report: Hamill-Andy in Works for UFC 92

Matt Hamill. Photo property of the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

A light heavyweight bout between former “Ultimate Fighter” cast member Matt Hamill and Reese Andy is reportedly in the works to take place on the undercard of UFC 92 according to MMA Junkie.

Bout agreements have apparently been sent to each fighter and are expected to be signed and returned by next week.

After winning his first three fights in the UFC, Hamill has hit a bump in the road of sorts, losing two out of his last three bouts. He most recently suffered a third-round TKO loss at the hands of Rich Franklin in his toughest career bout to date at UFC 88 in September.

Andy entered the UFC this past summer following the demise of the International Fight League, where he was victorious in five of his six fights with the promotion. However he fell in his UFC debut on July 19, dropping a lackluster unanimous decision to Brandon Vera.
