MacDonald and Lutter to Battle at MFC 22: Payoff

The Maximum Fighting Championship has announced that UFC veterans Jason “The Athlete” MacDonald and Travis Lutter will do battle at MFC 22: Payoff on Friday, October 2 at the River Cree Resort and Casino in Edmonton, Alberta.

“This is a mega-fight – the best matchup and exactly the fight we wanted for our fans,” said MFC Owner/President Mark Pavelich. “Both MacDonald and Lutter are tremendous competitors with great skills, and I think there is a grudge building up between them.

Prangley, Lashley Victorious at “Hard Knocks”

Veteran Trevor Prangley outlasted defending champion Emanuel Newton to take a five-round unanimous decision and the MFC world light heavyweight championship at MFC 21: Hard Knocks Friday night at the River Cree Resort and Casino just outside Edmonton, Alberta.

After a weathering an early storm and appearing to be out of gas, Prangley (20-5) picked up the pace after three rounds and began to wear down Newton (11-4-1) with crisper strikes and kicks. By the time the fifth round came around, both of Newton’s eyes were half-closed due to precise shots and the effects of well-placed bodyshots from punches, knees, and kicks had taken their toll on Newton.

The fight’s most compelling moment came with one second remaining in the fifth round as Prangley clipped Newton with a punch combo and then connected point-blank with a crushing high kick that caught Newton square on the chin. Both fighters went down in a heap – Newton from the blast and Prangley from a bruised foot – as referee “Big” John McCarthy jumped in with the horn blowing. The sold-out crowd at The Venue at River Cree gave both fighters a standing ovation for their impressive performances.

MFC Announces Full Card for “Hard Knocks”

The Edmonton-based Maximum Fighting Championship has released the complete card for MFC 21: “Hard Knocks”, which will take place on May 15 at the River Cree Resort & Casino.

The show’s main event will feature UFC and Strikeforce veteran Trevor Prangley returning to action to challenge Emanuel Newton for his MFC light heavyweight title. Former WWE superstar Bobby Lashley will also battle California product Mike Cook in a featured attraction.

Additional main card bouts include former WEC and UFC title challenger John Alessio against Andrew Buckland, seasoned veteran Marvin Eastman facing Aron Lofton, and a light heavyweight clash between journeymen David Heath and Travis Galbraith.

Lashley Inks Deal With Canada’s MFC

One of the most dominating up-and-coming fighters in the world has signed on with the Maximum Fighting Championship.

Former WWE star Bobby “The Dominator” Lashley will step into the MFC ring on Friday, May 15 at MFC 21: Hard Knocks live from the River Cree Resort and Casino and airing live throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico on HDNet Fights.

A chiseled and imposing figure at six-foot-three and 265 pounds, Lashley is the premier heavyweight prospect in all of mixed martial arts.

“Bobby Lashley is a phenomenal athlete and a very impressive fighter who wants to make a big name for himself in mixed martial arts,” noted MFC Owner/President Mark Pavelich. “He is a very exciting prospect and he will get a monumental opportunity to break into the spotlight at MFC 21.”

Daley vs. Thompson Added to MFC 20

A welterweight bout between British sensation Paul “Semtex” Daley and former BodogFight welterweight champion Nick Thompson has been added to the Maximum Fighting Championship’s latest offering on February 20 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

MMA on Tap has been able to confirm the bout with MFC President Mark Pavelich. A formal announcement of the fight is expected in the coming days.

Daley had a six-fight winning streak snapped at EliteXC’s “Heat” event in October, where he fell to former EliteXC welterweight champion Jake Shields via armbar in the second round. “Semtex” bounced back recently to record a second-round TKO of John Alessio at MFC 19 on December 5.

UFC and WEC Veterans to Bolster MFC Middleweight Division

The Maximum Fighting Championship has recently added three new fighters to it’s ever-growing middleweight division - Rory Singer and Solomon Hutcherson, who were both featured on the third season of “The Ultimate Fighter” reality show as well as former World Extreme Cagefighting middleweight contender Bryan Baker.

Singer and Baker have signed to fight each other at MFC 20 on February 20 while Hutcherson could make his promotional debut on the card as well if Mark Pavelich and company are able to find a suitable opponent for him in time for the event.

“I’m very excited about the addition of Bryan Baker because I think he can be a really dominant force in the MFC,” MFC President Mark Pavelich said in a press release sent out to the media.

Daley blasts Alessio in Long Time Coming’s superfight

Emanuel “The Hardcore Kid” Newton used a methodical approach and demonstrated a vastly superior gas tank as he ripped the Maximum Fighting Championship’s world light heavyweight title from Roger Hollett last night before a sold-out crowd at MFC 19: Long Time Coming.

Before the HDNet Fights’ cameras and a full house at The Venue at River Cree Resort and Casino, Newton simply wore out Hollett with a steady barrage of takedowns and an early attack to the body that clearly depleted the former title-holder. But while delighted with taking the title by a resounding unanimous decision, Newton (18-3) was apologetic for a fight that was less-than thrilling.
“I’m sorry it wasn’t very exciting and I promise I will be better when I defend this beautiful belt,” said Newton. “I relied on my cardio and that was the difference.”

Ford Sidelined by Knee Injury

Title rematch postponed to MFC 20 in February

The highly anticipated rematch for the MFC welterweight title has been postponed due to an injury suffered in training by challenger Ryan Ford.
Ford was diagnosed with a hyper-extended left knee by renowned sports physician Dr. Shelby Karpman who further advised the MFC’s top-ranked contender that needs to take time off to heal.

“My knee got bent the wrong way and some of the ligaments got stretched,” said a disappointed Ford. “I have to stay off it for a bit so there was no way I could have a full training camp which means I couldn’t be fully prepared for the fight.”

Report: Alessio-Daley to Collide at MFC 19 (Updated)

Former UFC and WEC welterweight title challenger John Alessio will reportedly take on rising British striker Paul Daley in a bout that will take place inside Mark Pavelich’s Maximum Fighting Championship on December 5 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada according to Sherdog.com.

Both Alessio and Daley were connected to the demise of ProElite’s EliteXC brand earlier this month. Daley had fought on four separate occasions in different promotions under the ProElite banner while Alessio was in talks to sign with the company before opting to twice fight at Las Vegas-based “Night of Combat” events following his release from the WEC earlier this year.

Alessio has won his last two fights since being disqualified for illegally kneeing Brock Larson at WEC 33 back in March. The Canadian submitted Pete Spratt in early summer and followed up by stopping fellow UFC veteran Gideon Ray with strikes on October 11.
