If you thought that the war between Georges St. Pierre and B.J. Penn was over, think again. Penn’s camp has informed Sherdog.com that they intend to file a formal complaint with the Nevada State Athletic Commission after officials spotted one of St. Pierre’s cornermen allegedly rubbed Vaseline on his back in between the first and second and then the second and third rounds.
“We are not trying to make excuses, but the NSAC needs to protect the fighters,” Penn told Sherdog.com via text message. “They never notified us or completely wiped his back with water and towels.”
Various reports are circulating that following the conclusion of the first round, Phil Nurse, who has been working St. Pierre’s corner for a number of years, was caught by someone sitting at ringside rubbing Vaseline on St. Pierre’s back and shoulders. It has yet to be confirmed that this person was former UFC light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell, but “The Iceman” was the first to inform UFC President Dana White of the incident after the conclusion of the fight, which St. Pierre won via fourth-round doctor’s stoppage.

Brandon Vera discusses his upcoming bout against fellow light heavyweight contender Keith Jardine on the main card of next weekend’s UFC 89, which will air via tape delay on Spike TV, in the above video courtesy of ESPN.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship has confirmed a previously rumored light heavyweight clash between part-time training partners Keith Jardine and Brandon Vera, which will take place on October 18th at UFC 89: Bisping vs. Leben. The event will emanate from the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham, England.
The UFC officially announced the fight in a press release sent out to the media yesterday. The bout will serve as the show’s co-main event.
After surprising many with his shocking win over former champion Chuck Liddell last fall, Jardine looked to move into title contender status only to be brutally knocked out by longtime PRIDE title holder Wanderlei Silva at UFC 84 in May. Jardine has now lost (and has been knocked out in) two out of his last three bouts.
Meanwhile Vera has been a bit of a scapegoat this week for his lackluster performance against IFL convert Reese Andy at the UFC’s “Silva vs. Irvin” event a couple weeks ago. It’s key to note that the fight was Vera’s first in his career at 205 lbs and that a bad weight cut (he said it was his first cut in close to nine years) likely contributed the absence of his usual explosiveness.

Hard-hitting light heavyweights and part-time training partners Keith Jardine and Brandon Vera will each look to turn in much-needed impressive performances when they clash on October 18th at UFC 89: Bisping vs. Leben, which will take place at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham, England.
The news was first broken by our friends at Cage Potato earlier today. MMA Junkie has learned that Jardine confirmed the bout himself today on an unnamed Albuquerque, New Mexico radio show. The UFC has yet to confirm the bout. It’s expected that it will be included as part of the event’s televised main card.
