Jason High

Video: Jason High vs. Nate Moore from Strikeforce “Rockhold vs. Kennedy” on Saturday Night

Jason High was angry after his 29-second submission win over Nate Moore was nixed from last Saturday's Strikeforce broadcast on Showtime.

He had every right to be, especially since he's probably the most worthy choice for Nate Marquardt's first welterweight title defense. Showtime was kind enough to put High's win up for everyone to see. A title shot would be even nicer.

— Zuffa has reportedly retained Axinn-Veltrop-Harkrider, LLP, a New York City-based law firm specializing in anti-trust litigation, as the Federal Trade Commission is rumored to be investigating the UFC's parent company following its purchase of Strikeforce earlier this year. “It is true that Zuffa has retained my law firm, but I will not comment further,” said Stephen Axinn, the firm’s senior partner. “As I am sure you know, people generally do not want to comment where there may be possibly some sort of investigation going on.” [Full Contact Fighter]

— Seasoned veteran Jason High announced today that he has signed to attempt to win his sixth fight in a row against WEC alumnus Todd Moore at Strikeforce Challengers 19 on September 23 in Las Vegas. After falling in the finals of DREAM's inaugural welterweight grand prix and a one-off stint in the UFC, High found his way into Strikeforce courtesy of an impressive win streak, which includes victories over Japanese legend Hayato Sakurai and heralded prospects Jordan Mein and Quinn Mulhern. Moore meanwhile has won four out of six since being released from the WEC. [Five Ounces of Pain]

— After Rashad Evans went down with injury, it was Quinton "Rampage" Jackson, not Jon Jones, who was first approached about facing Mauricio "Shogun" Rua on March 19. Wagner Stops Sylvia in 32 Seconds at TFC 16

Tim Sylvia. Photo by Esther Lin/AllElbows.com.

It seems as if Tim Sylvia's days as a top heavyweight in MMA have come to an abrupt end. Long gone is the dominant and consistant former UFC heavyweight champion that we once knew.

An overweight and out-of-shape Sylvia was left dazed and confused just 32 seconds into his main event bout against "TUF 10" contestant Abe Wagner at Titan Fighting Championships 16 at Memorial Hall in Kansas City, KS.

After a wild exchange on the feet between both fighters, Wagner caught Sylvia with a quick right hand. Sylvia backtracked to the other side of the cage and Wagner followed, unleashed a blitz of lefts and rights with a final combination catching Sylvia on the chin and sending him face down onto the canvas.

Former IFL welterweight champion Jay Hieron will reportedly take on undefeated prospect Jason High in a yet-to-be-announced bout at Affliction’s “Day of Reckoning” event on January 24 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California according to Five Ounces of Pain. Sources close to the fight have stated that the fight has likely been finalized.

Hieron, who currently trains out of Las Vegas-based Xtreme Couture, last fought at “Night of Combat II” on October 11, where he defeated last-minute replacement opponent Chris Kennedy via unanimous decision. Hieron had been slated to fight Drew Fickett prior to Affliction’s decision to move the event to early next year.

Like his counterpart, High was also scheduled to be part of Affliction’s second show before it’s postponement, previously signing to fight Mike Pyle. High sports a perfect 6-0 record thus far in his professional career. He most recently submitted Markhaile Wedderburn with a first-round guillotine choke at a Iroquois Mixed Martial Arts Championships event in June.
