Just hours after Alistair Overeem revealed that he was not prepared to accept a Strikeforce heavyweight grand prix semifinal bout against Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva on September 10, the organization's heavyweight champion has been removed from the tournament altogether.

Multiple websites, including MMA Weekly and Tatame are reporting that Overeem has been removed from the tournament and replaced by undefeated AKA product Daniel Cormier, who will face Silva in place of Overeem.

Overeem appeared on "The MMA Hour" earlier today and told Ariel Helwani that he was not prepared to accept the proposed matchup because he felt there would not be enough time to adequately following his victory over Fabricio Werdum last month.

Former UFC heavyweight champion Ricco Rodriguez will now put his eleven-fight win streak on the line against a new foe just hours before his promotional debut under the Shark Fights banner this evening.

According to MMA Weekly, Rodriguez faces Doug Williams, who was pulled from the undercard of Shark Fights 17 and quickly slotted into the co-main event. The change comes from a discrepancy involving Rodriguez and his assumption that original opponent Karl Knothe had agreed to a 230 lb catchweight.

Knothe tipped the scales yesterday at 253 lbs and Rodriguez, who cut down to 227 lbs, opted to bow out of the matchup, citing a vast disadvantage due to the weight difference.

Quote of the Day: Alistair Overeem Considering Move to Boxing

Alistair Overeem. Photo courtesy of Esther Lin/AllElbows.com.

"(After the Strikeforce grand prix tournament) I might go to UFC or boxing. Definitely, (I'm seriously thinking about fighting Vitali Klitschko). I think it matches my personality. I'm always looking for a challenge. That came about in fighting for K-1 and becoming K-1 champion, something nobody ever did before. It would be cool to go to boxing and beat the main guy there. If you give me a good preparation, good sparring partners, which I can arrange, I can fix that, with my background already in kickboxing, my K-1 background, I'm sure I can break some bones."

— Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem reveals his potential future plans during a recent interview, which could include a long-awaited move to the UFC or a switch over to the boxing world for a dream date against Vitali Klitschko.
