Georges St Pierre

GSP Hurt, Condit Sidelined, Penn-Diaz Now Main Eventing and I Want to Cry

If you haven't heard already, Georges St. Pierre has suffered a knee injury in training and has been forced to bow out of his seventh title defense against Carlos Condit next weekend. B.J. Penn and Nick Diaz will assume headline status.

Major bummer.

This sucks actually. In my opinion, UFC 137 could have easily turned out to be one of the most entertaining cards of the year, if not the best. Thanks to a stacked undercard, there are still enough intriguing matchups that the event remains a can't-miss, but the growing feeling that Condit may do better than expected would have made things a lot of fun to watch.'

Markham, ON  – Round 5 President Damon Lau announces an all-new line of collectible figures, UFC Titans, the latest brand extension of Round 5’s incredibly popular UFC license.

“For the last 3 years, we have had a great time working on our Ultimate Collector Series and the complementary UFC Live and UFC Versus collections. We are incredibly excited to announce our latest project: UFC Titans, says Lau. “As the UFC has grown into a mainstream sport, we wanted to produce a new line that appeals to our current fans as well as the new audiences who are finally recognizing mixed martial arts as the greatest sport on earth.”

The 5-inch UFC Titans figures are one inch shorter than the Ultimate Collector Series but share the same points of articulation at the neck, waist, arms and fists. Fans both new and old will see familiar faces in UFC Titans Series 1, as Round 5 will release figures of Randy Couture, Royce Gracie, Chuck Liddell, BJ Penn, and Georges St-Pierre.

Quote of the Day: Cesar Gracie Believes GSP Will Fight Diaz Like He Did Penn

“I think he’s going to approach this fight somewhat like the BJ Penn fight. I think he’ll try to fight Nick the same way where he’ll tie up with him, try to keep him up against the cage, do a little dirty boxing and try to get him arm weary, maybe get some takedowns and see how that goes. He’ll probably be cautious from the top position but try to inflict damage depending on how it’s going.”

Cesar Gracie, Nick Diaz's trainer and manager, tells Full Contact Fighter that he thinks Georges St. Pierre is planning on fighting Diaz in a similar fashion to how he defeated B.J. Penn in their UFC 94 meeting in January 2009. Touch of gloves to MMA Mania for the find.

Caught up in the hustle and bustle of the top three MMA organizations in North America all holding events in a three-day span was a story that didn't receive the amount of attention that it should have.

Following Diego Sanchez's controversial win over Martin Kampmann on Thursday, UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre joined the crew of the UFC on Versus III's post-fight show.

Naturally, St. Pierre was asked about a planned superfight between him and Anderson Silva if he were to defeat Jake Shields at UFC 129 on April 30. His reaction was surprising.

St Pierre Not Thinking About Silva Showdown

If you ask Anderson Silva about potentially fighting Georges St. Pierre, he'll tell you that he thinks it's a fun fight. If you ask St. Pierre, he won't have much of an answer for you.

The UFC's reigning welterweight champion was asked about the prospect of fighting Silva during a press conference to promote UFC 129 today, and responded swiftly - it's not on his mind.

"I don't think about it. I've never thought about it," St. Pierre said of a fight against Silva. "I always live in the present moment. It would be foolish for me to look past Jake Shields. He's the biggest threat to my title right now. He's a very well-rounded fighter and I'm glad the UFC brought him because he's the top contender for the welterweight title.

Anderson Silva lived up to his end of the bargain. Now the pressure is on Georges St. Pierre.

With a highlight-reel win over Vitor Belfort, UFC President Dana White reminded the media on Saturday that Anderson Silva will meet Georges St. Pierre in a superfight later this year, provided that St. Pierre gets past Jake Shields at UFC 129 in April.

"If St. Pierre wins, him and Silva is the fight we will do," White said. "Georges has said that if he beats Jake Shields, he'll take the fight and Anderson wants it too."

The topic of a dream fight between longtime UFC champions Anderson Silva and Georges St. Pierre has long been discussed and debated by fans of the sport. UFC President Dana White, intially against the idea, has softened his stance in recent years, but never before has the fight been targeted by the organization, until now.

As first reported by, White informed those in attendance at Friday's Q&A session with troops stationed at Fort Hood, TX that wins by both Silva and St. Pierre in their upcoming fights could result in the two being matched up against each other later this year.

"After he wins that fight, then Georges St. Pierre needs to beat Jake Shields in Toronto and if that happens, then we're probably going to do that fight," White said. "So if they both win, that fight makes all the sense in the world."
