The UFC returns for its third event in consecutive weeks and it's a big one - the promotion's annual Super Bowl weekend event in Las Vegas.

This year's edition features a "superfight" of sorts as UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo will defend his title, welcoming former UFC lightweight king Frankie Edgar to the division. Alistair Overeem will also return to action for the first time after a year-long layoff. He will face fellow Strikeforce import Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva for a shot at Cain Velasquez and the UFC heavyweight belt.

My predictions are after the jump.

UFC 156 fighters content to let skills take them to titles, rather than talking

Ever since Chael Sonnen secured a shot at Jon Jones' UFC light heavyweight title, it has become a topic of conversation.

Sonnen again used his trash talk to earn himself a shot at a UFC title. He did so before with a barrage of harsh criticism and veiled threats leading up to his rematch with Anderson Silva. Granted, Sonnen did win a pair of fights against top middleweight competition prior to the loss, but it was his verbal bravado that really set the second meeting between the two in motion.

In a sport that is starting to mix in entertainment to go along with its skill and toughness, is the easy way to a title shot to now talk your way towards it rather than climbing up the ladder through winning fights? The stars of UFC 156's main card don't think so.

What’s Next After UFC 150?

Whether we agree with it or not, Benson Henderson is still the UFC lightweight champion and Frankie Edgar is headed back to the drawing board for the first time in four years.

UFC 150 provided us with another potential storm of controversy at 155 lbs, but UFC president Dana White is determined to move forward within the division. At this point, who can blame him? The title’s last six defenses have featured the same four fighters.

So as promised, Henderson will defend the belt against top contender Nate Diaz later this year, while Edgar faces a multitude of questions regarding his future, none more prevalent than the option to drop to featherweight – a move that would appease many.

What about the other fighters that competed in Denver this past weekend? Well, here’s a list of potential matchups the UFC could make down the line.

The long-awaited conclusion of the trilogy between UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar and top contender Gray Maynard as well as what may be Jose Aldo's toughest test to date at featherweight in a title defense against former two-time 155 lb. title challenger Kenny Florian will headline the UFC's first-ever trip to Houston, Texas on October 8.

The UFC officially announced the pair of title fights this afternoon. UFC 136, which will emanate from the Toyota Center and feature a pre-event UFC Fan Expo, is also slated to feature Chael Sonnen's return to action against Brian Stann as well as Melvin Guillard looking for his sixth straight win against Joe Lauzon.

Edgar and Maynard will spar in a rematch of their back-and-forth battle at UFC 125 in January, which featured a dominating first round performance by Maynard and a come-from-behind run for the ages from Edgar, which ultimately resulted in a majority draw.
