Escudero Blasts Miller in UFC 103 Prelims

“Ultimate Fighter 8” lightweight winner Efrain Escudero kept his perfect record intact on Saturday night, scoring a devastating first-round stoppage of fellow “TUF” alumnus and skilled grappler Cole Miller during the preliminary portion of UFC 103.

Both Escudero and Miller opted to spend the first couple minutes of their Spike TV-televised attraction feeling each other out on the feet. Miller used a substantial reach advantage to land a number of jabs and stiff right hands while Escudero timed some of Miller’s leg kicks and put Miller on the mat on two separate occasions.

UFC 103: “Franklin vs. Belfort” Live Results

We will be going live at 6:00 PM ET with live results of UFC 103: “Franklin vs. Belfort”, which will take place at a sold out American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas. The event’s televised main card will be broadcast live on pay-per-view starting at 10:00 PM ET. An additional hour of preliminary bouts will also be shown on Spike TV starting at 9:00 PM ET prior to that.

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Vitor Belfort headlines the event, returning to the UFC in a 195 lb catchweight bout against former UFC middleweight champion Rich Franklin. A heavyweight contenders clash between formidable strikers Mirko Cro Cop and Junior Dos Santos serves as the co-main event.

UFC 103: Franklin vs. Belfort Prelims to Air Live on Spike TV

Spike TV has officially announced that it will air a portion of UFC 103’s undercard live and commercial-free on Saturday, September 19 at 9 PM EST.

“Providing an action-packed UFC pay-per-view, live and commercial free to our viewers on both coasts, further illustrates Spike TV and the UFC’s commitment to its fans,” Spike TV president Kevin Kay said to UFC.com.

Fight Announcements: Griffin, Curran, Stann & More

The past few days following the completion of Saturday’s UFC 93 event in Ireland have brought forth a slew of potential fight announcements involving upcoming events being put on by the UFC and WEC. Let’s get right to them:

— One-time WEC featherweight title challenger and longtime veteran Jeff Curran will reportedly make his bantamweight debut against Urijah Faber-protege Joseph Benavidez at WEC 40 on April 5 according to MMA Weekly. The event, which will likely take place in Chicago, will be headlined by WEC bantamweight champion Miguel Torres defending his title against Brian Bowles.

— Former International Fight League standout Bart Palaszewski will reportedly take on Richard Crunkilton in a lightweight bout at WEC 39 on March 1 according to MMA Junkie, which is also stating that the winner of the bout could receive a title shot against the winner of this weekend’s upcoming lightweight title fight between current champion Jamie Varner and top contender Donald Cerrone.

UFC 90 Medical Suspensions

The Illinois State Athletic Commission has released the official list of medical suspensions stemming from last month’s UFC 90: “Silva vs. Cote” event, which took place at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois on October 25.

The event saw Anderson Silva retain his UFC middleweight title over Patrick Cote via third-round TKO after Cote tore his ACL in the late stages of their championship fight. Former UFC lightweight champion Sean Sherk and rising welterweight contender Thiago Alves were also victorious on the card.

Cote has been medically suspended for 45 days and will be unable to participate in contact training sessions for 30 days due to his knee injury. However the Quebec City native is expected to be out of action for at least six months following surgery to repair the injury.

Heavyweight contender Fabricio Werdum, who was knocked out by newcomer Junior dos Santos on the main card, has been sidelined for two months while Drew McFedries, who was submitted by Thales Leites, has been given a mandatory one-month vacation.

UFC 90: Silva vs Cote Weigh-In Results

The official weigh-in results for tomorrow night’s UFC 90: Silva vs. Cote event, which takes place at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois, are below. All fighters successfully made weight with the exception of Josh Burkman, who weighed-in two pounds over the welterweight limit. He will be given one hour to shed the extra weight.

UFC 90 is headlined by reigning middleweight champion Anderson Silva defending his title against heavy-handed contender Patrick Cote. Rising welterweight sensation Thiago Alves will look to continue his winning ways against replacement opponent Josh Koscheck in the co-main event.

Report: McFedries-Massenzio Set for UFN

Miletich Fighting Systems product Drew McFedries will reportedly take on newcomer Mike Massenzio in a middleweight bout at the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s inaugural venture to Omaha, Nebraska for UFC Fight Night 15 on September 17th.

The news comes from Sam Caplan of Five Ounces of Pain, who has confirmed the bout with Massenzio’s manager, Gary Marino. Massenzio has also reportedly signed a four-fight deal with the UFC following his departure from the International Fight League.

McFedries last competed at The Ultimate Fighter 7 Finale in June, where he brutally stopped veteran Marvin Eastman with strikes in the first round. Prior to that, McFedries has split his first four UFC bouts, knocking out Jordan Radev and Alessio Sakara while being submitted by Martin Kampmann and stopped by Patrick Cote earlier this year.

Massenzio suffered his second loss in twelve career fights back in May, when he was submitted by Danillo Villefort at the IFL’s last-ever show in Connecticut. The former standout collegiate wrestler also owns wins over current UFC middleweights Dante Rivera and Dan Miller.

Mini-commentary:
- Dollaway protested his loss, suggesting he didn’t tap out.  It did appear that he tapped once.  It resulted in a good-looking hanging armbar from Sadollah.
- Tanner could not solve Grove’s size.  He walked into a few punches, and looked surprised by the reach of Grove’s legs.  Tanner had a good third round, but nothing that compared to the first two, which easily went to Grove.  The split decision result was curious.
