“Me and Dana talked about this, and he said he needs contenders. And, if me and Matt fight, there’s only going to be one contender, but I’m still going to work hard after this fight to call him out and say, ‘Hey, man, let’s do this; let’s make it happen.’ I’ve worked my way up and ever since I started in this fight game, I’ve wanted to fight Matt Hughes. I believe I can submit him. I believe I can stop him from taking me down and outbox and outmuscle him.”

- Wensday April 4th Spike TV will be televising Countdown to UFC 69 and UFC All Access with Georges St. Pierre.

Tatame: Fabricio Werdum Interview

How was that change from the Pride to the UFC?

My manager Ken May said that I was going to fight at the Pride 33, but it seems that they didn’t accept the purse we asked them, so he tough that was better to me to go fighting at UFC. He didn’t explained to me very well, but I know they will pay me much better there, I think almost the double that I am receiving at the Pride organization.

But didn’t you have a contract with the Pride?

No, my contract is with Ken May, my contract finishes on December and I want to renovate. I want to be the champion this year. I am at UFC now so I want to be the champion there. I did a contract of four bouts with the UFC and I want to dispute the belt on the third or on the fourth bout of my contract.

- PRIDE USA president Ed Fishman has filed a lawsuit against Dream Stage Entertainment.

- PRIDE USA VP Jerry Millen has commented on the rumored sale of PRIDE FC to Frank and Lorenzo Fertitta.

“It’s bullshit. You can’t beleive what you read on the internet and as a matter of fact I just got off the phone with Japan and Pride has not been sold and is not being sold to anyone, especially to Zuffa. We are in the process of making some ground breaking deals that will be bringing in large sums of revenue to the company and making it stronger than ever.”

- PRIDE president Noboyuki Sakakibara feels if there is anyone that can defeat Ricardo Arona it’s Sokoudjou.

“Nobody thought he would fight so well against Rogério. We received thousands of requests from Japanese that want to see him, live, fighting, and the BTT does not want to leave things as they are, so we chose him to face Arona. Sokoudjou accepted the challenge saying: ‘The answer is yes, whether my opponent is a human, a giraffe or Arona,’” said Sakakibara. “I implore everybody to watch this fight. Sokoudjou is only 22 years old, and if there is anyone that can knock down Arona, I believe it will be someone like Sokodjou,” Sakakibara completed.

- ProElite.com will be streaming Icon Sport: Epic live March 31st. The card feature a title fight between PRIDE and UFC veterans Frank Trigg and Robbie Lawler. Also on the card is UFC veterans Jason Miller and Renato Verissimo.

UFC 70: Nations Collide

Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic vs. Gabriel Gonzaga
David Heath vs. Lyoto Machida
Michael Bisping vs. Elvis Sinosic
Andrei Arlovski vs. Fabricio Werdum
Assuerio Silva vs. Cheick Kongo
Matt Grice vs. Terry Etim
Junior Assuncao vs. David Lee
Victor Valimaki vs. Alessio Sakara
Dennis Siver vs. Jess Liaudin
Edilberto De Oliveira vs. Paul Taylor

- Reports surfaced yesterday stating the Fertitta brothers have purchased PRIDE FC for an estimated $65 million. Dave Meltzer has released a message saying there may have been an 11th hour fall apart once again.

Regarding all the Pride rumors, we’ve heard so much in recent days. Where there’s smoke there is fire, but Pride has been close to sold so many times that I don’t count on anything, particularly since sources have heard about an 11th hour fall apart once again. The funny thing is, in Japan, the belief is it is about to be sold, but not to the Fertittas. But in Japan the expectation is something will break at the next show.

ADCC News: Big Announcements in April?

Antonio Inoki
Does anyone remember this man? He was at the very first show of the IFL, and before everyone noticed, he had some ex-body builder running his team Tokyo Sabres. On March 14th, Inoki officially announced that as of April 1st, he is starting a new martial arts promotion called Inoki Genome Federation. (IGF) The head of organization is none other than Anotonio Inoki but other executives and staff are still unknown till this date. The only prediction we can make at this point is that his son-law, Simon Kelly Inoki, just revealed his resignation from New Japan Pro-Wrestling’s president post, probably to join his father in-law’s new promotion. Besides this, no one knows what is going to take place with this new project by Mr. Inoki. All we can tell at this point, is that everyone is making big announcements in April.

- Josh Barnett released a message on his Myspace blog yesterday stating that it was unlikely he would be appearing on the upcoming PRIDE 34 card. More PRIDE drama…

There are some rumors thaty I will be fighting on the next PRIDE show, April 8th. Well I wish I could say there was much truth to it but at this point it doesn’t look very likely at all.

I had been training on a schedule to fight on the now canceled April 28th show and was contacted about now fighting on the 8th. Even though this would cut my time to train significantly, I was still receptive to fighting and planned to fight anyway. But at this point PRIDE has been unwilling or unable to make a match happen. We have yet to make any headway in booking a match and ,to me, it seems as though they are not even trying.

And I think he did,” commented Cox. “I’m not one to say that has any kind of effect. I wish he hadn’t have said it. It happens before a lot of fights, it’s just one of those things.”

Injuries going into a fight, especially a fight with as much meaning as a title fight, are quite common among professional fighters. In fact, it’s a common saying amongst fighters that “if you’re not injured at all going into a fight, you’re not training hard enough.”
