A win over Rich Franklin was expected to make Vitor Belfort an instant contender for Anderson Silva’s UFC middleweight title. But according to UFC President Dana White, Belfort may have positioned himself as the leading candidate for Silva’s next title defense, even before Dan Henderson and Nate Marquardt.

“You know, I think he might be ready now,” White said at last night’s UFC 103 post-fight press conference.

Rock the Vote: Liddell or Shogun?

Much is being made about the fact that the light heavyweight clash between former UFC light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell and PRIDE Fighting Championships standout Mauricio “Shogun” Rua is essentially a “do-or-die” fight for both involved.

Liddell can’t afford to lose for the fourth time in five fights if he wants to continue fighting at the level he wants to and another loss for “Shogun” inside the UFC would continue to fuel rumors regarding his downfall since the demise of PRIDE.

Thus, this weekend’s co-main event for UFC 97 is being anticipated by many. Who do you think will win? Will Liddell be able to revive his storied career after Saturday night or will Rua continue his rise back to prominence with a win against a fellow former light heavyweight king?

Chuck Liddell’s UFC 97 Video Blog

It’s still unknown whether or not Dana White will be doing another set of video blogs in the future after the controversy created following his comments towards Loretta Hunt, but for now, the UFC has employed former light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell to take part in his own project.

The above video chronicles some of the things Liddell has been doing in the month of April, including radio interviews and training for his upcoming fight this Saturday night against former PRIDE star Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship announced yesterday a pair of fights that will headlined the organization’s upcoming return to Canada on April 18. Anderson Silva will defend his UFC middleweight title against fellow Brazil native Thales Leites and former UFC light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell will take on former PRIDE star Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.

Silva comes into the fight never having lost in the UFC. Since taking the middleweight title from Rich Franklin over two years ago, “The Spider” has won six consecutive fights, including a successful rematch against Franklin, title defenses over Nate Marquardt and Dan Henderson, and a quick win at light heavyweight against James Irvin.
