Previewing UFC Fight Night 19: The Main Card

One of the more busy weeks in MMA will kick off on Wednesday when the UFC holds UFC Fight Night 19 at the Cox Convention Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma before premiering the first episode of the tenth season of “The Ultimate Fighter” reality show on Spike TV.

Headlining UFC Fight Night 19 will be a lightweight clash between “Ultimate Fighter 5” winner Nate Diaz and colorful striker and fellow “TUF” alumnus Melvin Guillard as well as Roger Huerta’s potential final UFC bout against standout wrestler Gray Maynard.

The official weigh-in results for tomorrow night’s UFC Fight Night 19 event, which takes place at the Cox Convention Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, are below. All fighters successfully made weight.

Quick Hits: Hallman Returns to UFC, Lytle Injured & More

- Dennis “Superman” Hallman is set to begin his fourth stint with the Ultimate Fighting Championship. According to reports, Hallman has signed a four-fight contract with the UFC but no opponent or date his been set. [MMA Junkie]

- International Fight League veteran Brad Blackburn signed a new four-fight contract with the UFC. Blackburn is 3-0 in the UFC with victories over James Giboo, Ryo Chonan, and Edgar Garcia. Blackburn recently underwent shoulder surgery and will not return to the octagon until 2010. [MMA Junkie]

Condit vs. Kampmann Confirmed for UFC Fight Night 18 in Nashville

The Ultimate Fighting Championship confirmed today through an official announcement that WEC welterweight champion Carlos Condit will indeed be making the jump over to the organization. The New Mexico native will headline UFC Fight Night 18 against Martin Kampmann.

Condit defeated John Alessio to capture the vacant WEC welterweight title in March 2007 and went on to successfully defend the belt three straight times. His last title defense was a hard-fought fourth-round stoppage of Hiromitsu Miura at WEC 35 this past August.

After winning four out of five fights in the UFC’s middleweight division, Kampmann opted to drop down to welterweight and was victorious in his 170 lb debut, scoring a second-round TKO win over Alexandre Barros at UFC 93 on January 17.

Evening News and Notes: Condit Headed to UFC; Nover-Bradley at UFC 98 & More

- It appears that WEC welterweight champion Carlos Condit could be headed to the UFC after all. Days after a Five Ounces of Pain report suggested that the WEC was attempting to match Condit up against Martin Kampmann at UFC Fight Night 18 in April after Condit was forced out of his March 1 title defense against Brock Larson due to injury, MMA Junkie is reporting that has been signed for the event, essentially signaling the end for the WEC’s 170 lb. division. In semi-related news, Dann Stupp and company are also saying that “Ultimate Fighter 8” runner-up Philippe Nover will likely return to action against Kyle Bradley at UFC 98.

From Rumble on the Rock’s welterweight tournament in 2006, here’s the tourney’s championship bout between current EliteXC welterweight champion Jake Shields and reigning WEC welterweight title holder Carlos Condit.

WEC Hands Out Post-Fight Bonuses

Following their highly praised event in Las Vegas this past Sunday, World Extreme Cagefighting has reportedly handed out post-fight bonuses to six of their contracted fighters, including bonus money for two “Fight of the Night” winners according to MMA Weekly.

WEC welterweight champion Carlos Condit and his tough opponent, Hiromitsu Miura, both received Fight of the Night honors after their epic four-round title bout in the night’s main event. After pushed harder than ever before in his WEC career, Condit eventually stopped Miura with strikes to retain his belt. Bonus money also went to WEC lightweight champion Jamie Varner and Marcus Hicks for their exciting lightweight title bout.

“Knockout of the Night” honors went to former welterweight title challenger Brock Larson, who dispatched of veteran Carlo Prater just 37 seconds into their preliminary bout. “Submission of the Night” went to bantamweight contender Brian Bowles who submitted Damacio Page with a guillotine choke in the event’s first televised bout. Each fighter listed above was awarded $7,500 on top of base salary.

Condit, Miura Issued Medical Suspensions

The Nevada State Athletic Commission has released the official list of medical suspensions stemming from last night’s World Extreme Cagefighting 35 event, which took place at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

Overall, the amount of suspensions handed out was relatively tame. Carlos Condit will be sidelined until September 3rd because of lacerations suffered on his left eyebrow and lip while his opponent in Sunday night’s highly praised main event, Hiromitsu Miura, could be forced to sit out until January of next year because of apparent fractures suffered to his nose and left orbital bone. However he can be permitted to return earlier if cleared by a doctor.

Brian Stann, Marcus Hicks, Carlo Prater, Dave Terrel, and Micah Miller, who all suffered TKO losses in their bouts, have also all been medically suspended due to precautionary reasons until either September 3rd or 18th respectively.

WEC 35: Condit vs. Miura Fighter Salaries

The Nevada State Athletic Commission has released the official list of fighter salaries stemming from last night’s World Extreme Cagefighting 35 event, which took place at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

Carlos Condit and Jamie Varner retained their respective WEC titles Sunday night while former U.S. Marine Brian Stann was defeated in a light heavyweight championship rematch against hometown favorite Steve Cantwell. The show’s other main card bout saw rising bantamweight Brian Bowles submit Damacio Page.

Remember that this is only the base salary that a fighter received. Bonuses, deductions, and other undisclosed fees are not included.
