In a recent article on UFC.com, Thiago “Pitbull” Alves mentioned that he had a secret weapon for his upcoming title bout with champion Georges St. Pierre.
Alves said, “Fabio Holanda, who trained GSP for nearly two years, is here supporting my training and giving me a lot of details about his game; that was a great addition.”
Last week we ran a story titled “Stéphane Dubé Wants His Shot” where TKO lightweight contender Stéphane Dubé took time to call out current TKO lightweight champion Sam Stout saying “In Sam’s contract it should stipulate that he has to fight me in December for the title, but you know what? I think Sam is going to have a big surprise September 28, Grandmont is furious because he think is was chosen because Stout team think he is a easier fight.”
Shortly after we ran the story Stout’s trainer, Shawn Tompkins, graced the airwaves of MMAWeekly’s SoundOff Radio to discuss his IFL team and the upcoming IFL Semifinals which is scheduled for August 2, 2007 at the Continental Airlines Arena in East Rutherford, NJ. At the end of the interview Jeff Cain posed a question about Dube and Tompkins provided listeners with a candid answer.
“Well sure, Sam Stout will fight Stephane Dube but Stephane Dube has to go fight somebody first to prove that he deserves a fight against Sam Stout. I mean, I could go on your radio show tomorrow and say I want to fight Chuck Liddell but that doesn’t mean I deserve it right? Stephane Dube has got sick strikes but two of those fights are against the same guy and three of those fights are against guys in a different weight division and all of those names he has fought are basically nobodys. The fact that he is turning 40 years old and thinks he deserves a shot and Stephane Patry wants to make that fight happen because it will sell tickets - I don’t owe Stephane Patry any gift. I’ve dedicated alot of my time and energy to him over years so we’ll find people that deserve the fight. There is alot more people that deserve to be in that fight other than Stephane Dube, no disrespect to him, but if he disrespects us, you know, he’s got to sit back and take a real look at things. Like I said, I can go on here and call out anybody but it doesn’t mean I deserve the fight.”
TKO 30: Apocalypse will feature Sam Stout defending his lightweight title against Martin Grandmont. Stéphane Dubé will appear on the undercard against Tyler “TNT” Jackson. For the latest TKO 30 fight card, check out the Rumors section.
Stéphane Dubé is a versatile mixed martial artist who possesses excellent Muay Thai and kickboxing skills. Dubé will be fighting Tyler Jackson at TKO 30: Apocalypse on September 28th, 2007 at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec. Dubé has been vocal recently stating that he feels TKO lightweight champion Sam Stout is avoiding a possible title match with him. MMA on Tap caught up with Dubé to get his thoughts on Tyler Jackson, Sam Stout and a possible lightweight title shot in the future.
Dubé‘s most recent victory came at TKO 29: Repercussion when he stopped David Medd with strikes. After the fight Dubé took the microphone and proceeded to call out Sam Stout. When asked about his feud with Stout he said, “I have no problem with Sam Stout, but now it’s enough. First time he said tell your people to call my people, they did but it did not append, they call again and this time they said that I did not beat any good fighter to their eye. I still won 6 in a row and did not choose any of those opponents. They say that I have to beat a serious contender, so they choose Tyler Jackson. That’s all.”
It was recently announced that Dubé‘s opponent at TKO 30 would be TKO veteran Tyler Jackson. When speaking about Jackson, Dubé was very respectful saying, “All I know about Tyler Jackson is that he is a very nice guy to talk to and I know that he always comes prepared for a fight. He is a well rounded fighter, good wrestler, good boxer and very good ground and pound fighter.”
If Dubé gets by Jackson at TKO 30 one would expect a title shot in the near future. Dube wants it, Stout wants it and the fans want it! It seems like the perfect opportunity for Stephane Patry and TKO to setup and market a little grudge match. When asked if he felt he’d be getting a title shot in the immediate future Dubé said, “In Sam contract it should stipulate that he has to fight me in December for the title, but you know what? I think Sam is going to have a big surprise September 28, Grandmont is furious because he think is was chosen because Stout team think he is a easier fight.”
